RE: [Chevelle-List] Matching Numbers?

2003-02-26 Thread Scott Kintz
I have 2 1972 Chevelle convertibles. I wanted to stick as close to stock
as possible.

Thanks for the help!

Numbers matching is individualistic and you will get different
opinion's.
To some it doesn't matter and Hot Rod is the way to go, to some it's
feeling good that at least the engine / trans match the VIN, to some
it's
everything matching in build date order - just as the car rolled off the
assembly line. My goal is it's nice to have a car as the day it rolled
off
the line. Sometimes getting to that point is expensive and turns into
an
obsession.

Numbers matching does increase the value over a car that is not, but
that
doesn't mean a car that is customized wouldn't hold an equal or greater
cash value for it's uniqueness.

I've found the "Chevrolet by the Numbers" book very helpful in
identifying
correct numbers. It brings you into the world of casting numbers and
dates. The book is offered in several ranges of years.

What year car is yours?

a
car's numbers should all match to make it more valuable. I do know that
each car has a VIN and engine numbers and transmission numbers. Is there
some book to access that will tell me if these numbers match? And where
would I find such a book?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
