[Chevelle-List] LED Taillights - Update
Hi Guys, We have had many requests fora '68 Chevelle LED taillight kit. We are happy to announce that it is now available for $99.95. Please give us a call if you are interested. On a related note, we are looking to buy taillight housings and lenses for both the '66, '69and '71 Chevelles. Condition is not important to us as we only use the housings to design the specific brackets to mount our LED arrays. Please let us know by e-mail or call us should you have an extra one of these housings you would want to sell. Title: Message Easier doesn't mean better. You'll be disappointed in the brightness. Also, LEDs are very directional. This means the light travels straight like a laser. LEDs do not take advantage ofthe reflector in your taillight housing. With the "bulb replacement" as shown in your link, you will get a very small lighted area that looks like a hot spot on your lens. The entire lens will not light-up. We solve this problem by matching the LED array to the specific car lens and filling most of the lens with light. You get what you pay for. From their website, it looks like you can tell that there is an LED array when the lights are lit, but from your pictures it looks just like the regular bulb. So, when you look at your car with the LED array, can you tell? The pictures didn't do the installation justice but I wasn't about to reinstall the bulbs for a fairer test :*). The LEDs are brighter and give a ~fuller~ light as opposed to the ~single spot~ of the bulb. I've been told they are easier to seewhen being followed in the rain as well. Not beingin the trailing car however, I can't vouch for it, just what I was told. If I were to install these, it would be a lot more expensive than the $90! Since you have to remove the housing and loosen the bumper,it would make sense to replace the nasty looking parts. First, I would need new bezels ($150), then my lenses would look like crap ($40), and I would need gaskets ($9). Assuming I could stop there, I would end up with almost $300 just to replace $1 in light bulbs! Isn't that the way it always happens? LOL! But I do see the need for these. Before I had my car painted, people would complain and tell me how dim my brake lights were. I tried the brighter bulbs, but they did not last long and were a pain to replace every few months. So, I added a 3rd brake light in the molding above the rear window. I'll have to take a picture of this to better explain, but it is not at all apparent that the LED bar is there until I step on the brakes. The shop also fixed up the reflectors and now I have great visibility. I've had a third brake light for some time. Originally I had a $19.95 special from AutoZone. When I had the interior done a couple of years ago, I had an LED unit installed in the console unit that goes up and over the package tray. I don't have any pictures of it specifically, but it's in the raised section of this photo - http://www.dalesplace.com/images/chevelle/backseat1.jpg Dale

Title: Re: [Chevelle-List] LED Taillights for '67 & '70 Chevelles Brad, These LED arrays are brighter than the 1157 bulbs! Also the light source is spread out andthe light fills your lens better. As for the price, remember that the LEDs will last for the life of your car. If they prevent a someone from rear-ending you, then what is the value? The taillight must be disassembled for installation. The entire install takes about an hour for the '67. For some photos of the '67 installed, download the installation instruction from our web site. Have you yet been able to crate a true 1157 replacement with equivalent brightness? How do you get the PC board through the tail light housing, or do you have to disassemble the whole thing?Brad Waller'67 Chevelle'66 Corvette
