[Chevelle-list] White walls.
Soft scrub and a brush make raised white letters look like new. I'm sure it would do the same for white walls too.
[Chevelle-list] OPG
Deal with OPG long enough and you will find out what the issue is. A ripoff on shipping, and they will tell you they have something when they don't. I will never use them again.

[Chevelle-list] Off topic, Camaro.
I've about got my 68 Chevelle SS done, So I'm looking for something else to take up my time. I'm looking at a 1970 camaro, It has a small block 350 in it. I'm not sure of the price yet, Somewhere between $7000.000 - $9000.00 The car is in pretty good shape. The Question is, I have a 454 that I would like to put in it if I get it. Will this engine drop in using the same motor mounts? And what other mods will I have to do? Even If the price is $9000.00 is that an OK deal for a good 1970 Camaro? I know that would be a steel on a SS Chevelle, But I don't know much about Camaros, Other than the 69 Z. Thanks for any info ahead of timeDennis
[Chevelle-list] Tremec 5 speed info.
Jerry, I installed a Tremmec TKO 5 speed this spring in my 68 SS. I've made a couple of road trips this summer to car shows, and it has been great. I bought my tranny from an outfit called Dark Horse performance in Renton Wash. Stay away from them !! Very dishonest. If I had it to do over again I would buy from Jam Performance Transmissions. Email- www.5speedtransmissions.com A few weeks ago I drove my car to the Rocky Mountain Chevelle Regional just south of Denver Co. From where I live In Rock Springs Wyoming it's about 385 miles. On the way back I got about 19 miles per gallon. My car has a 454 with a 355 posi. It was a bit of a pain in the A$$ to install the TKO over from the TH400, But as I look back it was well worth it. You might want to get ahold of Mike Pell. He is a great guy with allot of info. He use to sell Tremmec transmissions, and he helped me out allot even though I didn't buy the tranny from him. He is on the list. His email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] I can't say enough good about Mike,He is just a great guy and knows his stuff on TKO's...Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Wheel hop.
I just installed a Tremec 5 speed into my 68 SS. I switched from a TH 400. The problem That I have now is bad wheel hop. I never had it with the 400. I have boxed my lower control arms and installed urethane bushings. Plus I have airlift drag bags in my coils and Monroe coil shocks. I'm thinking that I might have to get a set of traction bars, but I don't want to loose the stock look. Have any of you guys used traction bars or adjustable upper control arms to fix a problem like this? The only thing that I can think of, that might have changed in this switch over is the pinion angle. Thanks ahead of time for any helpDennis
[Chevelle-list] Tremec Transmissions.
Can any body tell me of a good Tremec dealer in the Rocky mountain area? I've had a TKO 500 ordered for the last 3 1/2 weeks from an outfit called Dark horse. There located out of Washington State. I would not recommend them for anything. Very dishonest. Thanks for any helpDennis
[Chevelle-list] Leaving the list for awhile.
Clint, I Hope things go good for you.For sure you will be missed. Thank you for all of your help. You are a wealth of information on wheels and tires. Best wishesDennis Gage
[Chevelle-list] Power steering gearbox for 68 SS.
Looking to buy a new power steering gear box for my 68 SS.What do you guys think is the best way to go? A Quick ratio 3 turns lock to lock. Or something else.? Also wheres the best place to buy one? I rebuilt the front end last summer,But I know theres allot of play in that old stock box.It gets pretty scarey about 100 mph. Thanks for any help ahead of timeDennis
[Chevelle-list] OPG. Rip-off
Last June I bought a throttle cable bracket for my Holley 750 double pumper. The price was $19.95. Shipping and insurance was $13.70. The total was $33.65 for a part that weighed about 6 ounces. What really got me was the fact they failed to mention that the bracket that I ordered was on back order for four weeks. They send out a great catalog every year, but when I get mine it goes in the trash. Good luckDennis
[Chevelle-list] Over spray removal.
Can somebody tell me what the best way is to remove over spray? I just had my 68 SS painted. The shop that did it, did a great job other than some over spray in my engine compartment. I just did the engine compartment this summer so it was close to perfect. I didn't want to try to clean it off with something like thinner, because I know half the new paint would come off with the over spray. I'm thinking there must be something a guy can use with out taking off the new paint. Thanks for any help ahead of timeDennis
[Chevelle-list] New insurance.
Alex Didn't cover In Wyoming. But he found a company that did. Next time my policy comes up I will go with them. He's a great help. Thanks again for your help Alex.Dennis Gage
[Chevelle-list] Strip kits.
I'm in the process of getting my 68 SS painted.I want to put two stripes on it like the 70 Chevelle has. What would you guys advise? Buying a stencil kit for a 70 SS. Or is there a better way of doing it? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can give me.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Favorite Parts catalog.
Just wondering what your favorite places to buy parts from? I've tried OPG,and year one. I won't buy from OPG any more. There always on back order, and there a RIP OFF on shipping. I found year one was slow to get parts out, plus there high dollar. The best I've found was Muscle factory out of Placentia California. Most of the time they have what I need at a fair price.Plus there fast and fair with there shipping.Just thought I'd ask and maybe find something new.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Converting to a 4 speed.
I'm going to convert to a 4 speed next spring on my 68 SS. Right now I'm trying to get all the parts I'll need for the swap. I found a little information on this swap on team Chevelle. In the article it said I would need to add a metal hump to the transmission tunnel. Any body know where I can get one of these? Also does anyone know where I can get more info on this swap? Thanks ahead of time for any helpDennis
[Chevelle-list] Muncie linkage.
I've seen some Muncie 4 speed shifters for sale on ebay. Most of them are missing the linkage.Does anybody know where you can buy the linkage for these old shifters? I want to change out my turbo 400 for a 4 speed Muncie on my 68. Anything special a guy should watch out for? Thanks for any info ahead of time...Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Muncie main case.
A friend of mine has a Muncie 4 speed that he is going to give me. He thinks it's out of a 65 chevelle SS. The only problem is that one of the ears that bolt to the bell housing is broke off. I see there are a few main cases on ebay for sale. Can anybody tell me if all Muncie main cases are the same. Thanks ahead of time for any informationDennis
[Chevelle-list] FYI. Cam wipe out.
Any body running flat tappet cams might want to read the June issue of Hot Rod magazine.According to the article oil manufactures have taken out zinc and phosphorus additives. (ZDDP) With the elimination of this additive it wipes out your cam and lifters. The only oil that has it is shell Rotella T. Or you can buy a 4-ounce bottle of GM cam shaft and lifter prelube and add with every oil change.Part number #PN 12345501 I think this is worth reading. It might save you allot of money and heartache.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] 68 SS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
A couple of days ago I installed a single wire alternator. My old one was a stock 3 wire. Now when I go out to start my car the battery is totally dead. When I charge it up and drive it, the gen light is on. It's very diem and hard to see. I bought the painless wire kit which was just one wire from the alternator to the positive side of the battery. My auto gauge volt gauge is reading just a little under 14 volts when I'm driving the car.So I'm thinking the battery should be getting a charge. Anybody have any Ideas? Thanks ahead of time for any help.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Changing out heater core in 68 SS with A/C.
I'm in the middle of changing out my heater core on my 68 SS with A/C. The A/C is not hooked up. The problem I'm having is getting the case apart from the inside.I've taken all the nuts off from the outside fire wall. But it still won't come apart. The 68 service manual gives very little information on heater core work. Anybody have any ideas on what to do next? Thanks for any help you can give meDennis
[Chevelle-list] Chrush sleeve question.
I'm changing the ring and pinion in my 68 SS.I'm going from 308 to 355 gears. I had to add 10 mill to get the right pinion depth. My old chrush sleeve was 2,209 plus a 48 mill shim. The new chrush sleeve is 2,305. If my math is correct,I have a 48 mill differance. I'm having a hard time getting the crush on that new sleeve. I have a 1/2 drive I.R. impact but it won't take it up. I also have a 3/4 I.R. impact. I'm thinking that if I use the 3/4 drive. I might strip out the threads on the new shaft. Have any of you guys ran into this problem? Is 48 mill to much to try and take up and still maintain a pinion bearing preload of 20-30lbs? also these are new bearings. Thanks for any help ahead of time.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] 1968 bumpers.
I was checking around for bumpers for my 68 SS.I was told that all reproduction bumpers that year are made overseas. Sounds kind of fishy to me.Do any of you guys have any information about this? I want to get triple chrome bumpers, but only made in the USA. ThanksDennis

[Chevelle-list] 68 turn signal switch.
Can any of you guys tell me what you think the problem with my turn signals might be? I have a 68 SS with a tilt steering wheel. The other day my turn signals stopped working. I checked the fuse panel, and all of the fuses are good. I'm thinking the turn signal switch in the steering column went out. Is there any way to check to see if this is the problem? Has any one else ran into this, and what did you do? Thanks ahead of time for any helpDennis
[Chevelle-list] 1969 proportioning valve question.
Can some body please tell me which lines go where? I'm switching over to front disc brakes on my 68 SS Chevelle. I bought a front disc brake proportioning valve off of a 69 SS chevelle. There is a line coming out of it in the front. And a line coming off of the bottom. Not sure where to hook them up. Some valves I've seen have four lines coming out of them. Will this one that I have with just two lines work OK? Thanks ahead of time for any help.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Gear Ratio.
Can one of you guys tell me what gear ratio I have. And what series carrier I have. It's a 12 bolt rear end in a 1968 Chevelle SS. The numbers on the ring gear are 12 67 3853003-14-43 The pinion gear has 14 teeth. The ring gear has 43 teeth. I'm thinking 325 or 307 gear ratios but GM didn't offer those ratios that I can find. They offered a 308 but the math does not point to that either. Thanks ahead of time for any helpDennis
[Chevelle-list] Age of chevelle owners
I'm 51. Grew up in northern California close to fremont drag strip. First car was a 56 Belair sport coup. How I wish I still had that car. 2nd car was a 64 El Camino 327, 365hp 4 speed. We ate Road runners and stangs for lunch. I now have a 68 SS 396. A true 138 Northern California car. I live in Rock Springs Wyoming. Best Wishes...Dennis
[Chevelle-list] 4 speed Tranny.
Do any of you guys know what 4 speed transmissions came in a 1963 SS Impala? I was talking to a guy in the local Auto zone parts store and he said he had one for sale. He didn't know what kind it was. He lives in a town over from where I do. Thought If it was a muncie and the price was right I might pick it up. Thanks ahead of time for any Info.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] Front coil springs. for an AC car.
Do any of you guys know where I can find a set of front coil springs for my 68 SS 396 That has AC? In most of the catalogs you can find new front springs, but none for cars with AC. Thanks ahead of time for any infoDennis
[Chevelle-list] Porting heads.
Do any of you guys know how much horse power there is to be gained in porting a set of heads? I have a set of oval port cast heads off of a 454 that already has had the over sized stainless valves installed. I'm putting this 454 in my 68 SS Chevelle. It's got a 400 turbo trany with with 308 gears. Just wondering if it's worth the extra cost while I have the engine apart? Thanks ahead for any help you can give me on thisDennis
[Chevelle-list] 68 Glove box /ac
Can anyone tell me what glove box I need for my 68 SS 396 chevelle, with a/c? I bought one off ebay from a Malibu with a/c but it does not fit. Some are fiberglass with a leather flap. And some are cardboard. I'm thinking that I probley have to get one off a 68 or 69 with a big block. But I don't know this for sure. Thanks for any help you guys can give meDennis
[Chevelle-list] vin #numbers
Does anyone know where I might find a sight to figure out what the vin numbers mean on a 1970 SS chevelle. I want to make sure it's a true SS and not a clone. I'm kinda new at this so any help would be greatly apprecheated. Thanks.Dennis
[Chevelle-list] cigarette lighter
Does anyone know where I can get a cigarette lighter for my 1968 SS chevelle. I think GM only made that model in 1968. I can't find that style in any of the catalogs. Thanks Dennis
