[Chevelle-list] Fender and Hood

2005-07-23 Thread kbennett
I have a 69 malibu and have located some 68 fenders and hood. Is there a
difference between the 68 and the 69 parts i mentioned?

I wanted to get me project up and running and was wanting to know the scoop
on these parts.

Thanks, Kyle

[Chevelle-list] rear tires

2005-04-27 Thread kbennett

I just got a set of 15x8.5 rims for the rear of my
71 chevelle. They have a 3.5" backspacing.

I want to put some meaty tires in the rear. What
size tires would fit nice with out rubbing.

I'm guessing a 265/60/15 or something around that
size.

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE  ;)

Subject: [Chevelle-list] Car Show / Prizes

I am looking for feed back on car shows and car show prizes. Our church
has a Community Block Party each fall and we added to it a car show last
year. I am again coordinating this years show - it takes a lot of time,
but it's fun.
1st What makes a good car show for you?
2nd Give me feedback on what we did:
My approach was to make it fun and not the typical 1000 pt show. Free (no
admission) Car Show was on a Saturday 11am - 4pm. Free pancake Breakfast
8am - 10pm. Free goody bag for each car. Free raffle for 2 sets of free
tickets to local auto museum. Free raffle for Eastwood tool catalog $25
gift certificate. We had 12 fun judging categories: Pastor's Choice,
Most
Chrome Under The Hood, Favorite Paint, Favorite Interior, Favorite Grille,
Most Unique, Favorite Hood Ornament, Looks The Fastest, Wish You Had It In
High-school, Best Display of Era or Theme and Favorite License Plate. I
had one car lover, who is not a classic car owner, do all the judging.
During the show I played '50s style / Beach Boys type music. Also
throughout the show I used the PA to ask automotive trivia questions and
awarded free Baskin Robins certificates for correct answers. For the 12
categories prizes I gave out 1st choice and 2nd choice. Prizes were in
the
form of automotive merchandise $20 - $30 values.

Last year it was on Labor Day Weekend - many would be attenders were out
of
town. Still we had 44 cars turn out.

This year it's the 2nd week in September and I am thinking about adding a
Free Lunch to two people per car and adding a dash plaques to go with the
goody bags.
Thank you for your input!

To finish the frame and other parts, you should also consider
powder coating. I had my frame, rear end housing, and 60 some odd pieces
powdercoated for $300.  Sandblasting for all if it was $75. All in
all, pretty inexpensive, and the results are awesome.
I've POR-15ed a lot of stuff, and I much prefer the powdercoating.
Dittos on getting the frame mounts off.  I had the body off, so that
made it much simpler to get to everything.  Just take your time, and
prepare to be a contortionist for a little while.  :-)

We only want to do the job once and we want to get it right. It seems I
always run in to problems and end up redoing something here and there. I
have to learn from my mistakes. As far as getting the frame mounts off the frame. It is a tight
squeeze to get them off. But you can do it. I did it, so I know you can. It
was actually harder to put them back on then it was to get them off.
Everything is harder to back together then it is to tear apart. Have you
found your new frame mounts yet? That was a trick too. I had to get my frame
mounts from a buddy of mine that had an extra set. Good luck on finding
yours. When I compared the 350 or 454 mounts to the 307 mounts, the 307
mounts were a lot taller. Are you going to do a frame off restoration? That's a big job. Once
you tear it down that far it won't have any problem getting your frame
mounts off and on. I have
never done a frame off restoration and I have never chemical dipped a frame.
But I have used POR15. I like POR15 OK on some small things. Battery trays,
etc. I brushed my frame with POR15 but after looking back I probably should
of sprayed it on. I think it has a think look to it and I don't like it as
much. Also you have to get anything you paint real clean before you use
POR15 or it won't stick. It will peal right off after it dries. That's why I
like to use POR15 on small things that can be cleaned real good. If you can
chemical strip your frame and spray on POR 15 you should look real good and
it should stick real good too. Good luck Ryan,It
sounds like you have a big project on your hands.Take your time and it will turn out real
nice. Keep on

As i sit here surfing the net looking for doors, regulators and glass and

advertising parts for 2 door POST and 2 door NON POST. Is there anyway to
tell what this car use to have. I'd really hate to get mixed parts for
post and non post. Cause i'm not sure if the items will conflict.

What exactly makes it POST or NON POST. I just can't recall seeing a POST

If anyone could school me on this, i'd greatly appreciate it.

That's what i was thinking as well, but I wanted to make sure i was getting
the correct pieces without mixing the Nonpost and Post parts. That's why i

So at this point I guess i need to look for ALL parts from a NON POST car.
I really appreciate you all helping me out. I'd hate to buy the wrong
parts.and that's the way my luck would be.

If all of the inner sheetmetal has been cut out, you are
probably better off looking for replacement doors. Hopefully intact
doors. IF you tried to reinstall the inner sheetmetal, it would
probably need to be aligned within a gnats butt. Any discrepancy in
the alignment and the windows wouldn't seal correcty, may bind & who
knows what else.I'm sure that its doable, but the cost in time &
effort may make it impractical . Also if you buy the doors
intact, no concerns with locating all of the minor bits & pieces.

Kyle,

I wouldn't think much is interchangeable. On a 300 Deluxe and Malibu
sport
coupe (hardtop) car the front glass meets the quarter glass when rolled up
and there's no vent wing. On the 300 Deluxe 2-door sedan, you have the
vent
wing plus a "B" pillar (I think it's called) between the door and the
quarter. I have an old photo of my 69SS 2-dr post car at
http://www.dalesplace.com/images/gallery/69/69ss.jpg Don Lightfoot has a
gorgeous 69 2-dr sedan at
http://www.pbase.com/don_lightfoot/image/31983729
and if you compare the side view to a sport coupe (hardtop), you'll
quickly
see the difference.

I would imagine just about everything on the door and its internal
workings
is different between the 'post' car and the hardtopâprobably very little
is
interchangeable if anything.

According to published figures there were 13,858 300 Deluxe 2-dr sedans
built compared to 10,502 300 Deluxe hardtops and 300,886 Malibu hardtops
in
1969. Percentage wise, there are probably less 300 Deluxe 2-dr sedans
left.
Personally I like the 2-dr post cars because fewer were built and less
that
have probably survived, windows have a solid frame and I would guess don't
tend to leak or have as much wind noise and I always like the vent wing.
Not as sexy as the hardtops and obviously not as popular when new, but
still
neat cars.

Kyle,

A "post" car or sedan, means that there would be a metal frame
surrounding
the driver & passenger side windows, as well as a frame for the rear side
windows. "Post" cars were normally the cheaper versions of the Chevelles.
Much less common than the non-post or coupe.

I have always used the pinstripe removal tool. Which looks like a large

off without maring the paint. Then get some goo-gone or something similar to
remove any left over adheasive residue.

Works like a charm.

I wouldn't be surprised if that server can't handle the
load. Here's what I got. "This site has been temporarily disabled.
If you are the owner of the site, please contact customer care. "
Maybe I should've saved the file
Basically it was a 68 or 69 Chevelle street racing what looked like a mid
80s Cutlass (it was a night race and poor video quality). Long story
short, the 80s car wrecked, and it was literally spit in half.  The car
completely seperated behind the driver's seat, and looked to be a short
distance away.  And the rear half of the body was peeled off of the
frame.   It was unbelieveably destroyed..
Then there was some track footage of some 78-ish malibus pulling wheel
stands.

Re: Re: [Chevelle-List] Pro Street rolling stock for sale

2002-12-23 Thread kbennett
Nice looking wheels, but i kinda want to stay away from the wheels with the
holes on them. Those wheels look like the "old school" centerline pro
stocks. I got a set of 15x7's in that sytle.

What are you asking for them? and does your price include tires too? What's
the condition of the wheels and tread life on the tires?

Thanks.and NICE ELKY!

What type of centerlines are they. I'm looking for some auto drag's for my
71' pro street project.

Let me know when you have pictures and a price in mind.
