Eric,

Although I have a 66 Chevelle, I dont know if it is the same for the 66 Chevelle. But I know in 1967 the biggest motor you could get from the factory was a 396 but you could order a dealer special 427. My Dad said there was a few of them at his high school. These ones are worth the big bucks.

Eric that air cleaner is worth big bucks. My buddy just paid 2500 bucks for one.

A buddy of mine recently purchased a 66 Chevelle that has some rather 
interesting things about it.  First off, although it has a 396 engnie right 
now, it has all of the badging for a 427.  It even has a cowl plenum air 
cleaner.  Additionally, the license plate frame says "Dana Chevrolet".

Does anyone know if Dana made a 427 Chevelle in '66?  Could this possibly 
be a prototype that never came to be?  Anyway of checking the history of 
this car based on the VIN number?  Any help would be
