[Chevelle-List] Door Weatherstripping info needed

2002-12-06 Thread Clint Hooper
My 69 Elky needs some new door weatherstripping. Coming back from Nebraska
yesterday,a lot of cold air was coming into the interior around the doors.
The door fit looks perfect but the weatherstripping is very hard;not pliant
at all. Can you guys give me your recommendations as to what stripping is
the one to buy and where to get it?

All of the stuff we sell is from either Soff-Seal or Steele Rubber. No
complaints so far. I'll be having all the new weatherstrips put into my El
Camino very soon myself. If you can wait a while, I can send you some pics
and a report on fit/finish, etc. I don't expect to have it back for a little
while yet though.

It's pretty much all Soff-Seal. I forgot to mention earlier that the window
felts come from Re-Pops.

Steele Rubber has lots more selection for less popular stuff, but Soff-Seal
has Chevelle / El Camino pretty well covered.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Door Weatherstripping info needed

2002-12-06 Thread Wayne Kline
Not hard at all. The biggest job is removing the old and cleaning the area
in preparation for your install.
I like the black 3-M black heavy duty weather strip adhesive, runiinh a
1/6 to 1/8 bead between the locating plugs.
As for brands. Soft Seal or Metro ( I never used Steel)
Metro rubber is Softer sponger on compression. They both are good
products. But the Soft Seal on a Door wheater Strip, takes longe for the
foam/rubber to compress and let the door sit flush. And you still most
likly will have to readjust the striker pin.
After some time everything will conform and then IMO. both products are
the same.

RE: [Chevelle-List] Door Weatherstripping info needed

2002-12-06 Thread John Nasta
There is a door frame weatherstrip that goes around the shell of the door
(completely around on 2 4 door sedans and El Caminos or just around the
bottom sides on coupes and convertibles).

Then there is a roof rail weatherstrip for coupes, where the door glass
meets the roof rail.

Then there is window glass run channel, which goes into the vertical bar
behind the vent window on pre-1969 coupes and convertibles w/ vent windows,
and around the top both sides of the door glass on 2 4 door sedans and
El Caminos w/ vent windows.

Then there is the vent window seal for pre-1969 coupes convertibles and 2
4 door sedans El Caminos w/ vent windows.

Finally there are the window felts, which sit in the channel where the door
glass comes out of the door shell (and where the quarter window glass comes
out of the rear quarter on 2dr models).

HTH,
John Nasta
