Re: [Chevelle-List] Transmission Bad.
Mark, I've got a 700r4 behind a 402 big block and so far it's been working great. I've got stock heads with a mild port job and a Comp XE274 cam. I'm also running a 3.73 gear. The 3.04 first gear in the tranny w/3.73 rear works great and at 70 mph I'm turning 2300 RPM's. Mine does have a shift kit and it hits 2nd gear pretty hard (but that's just fine). Hope that helps. Re: [Chevelle-List] Transmission Bad.
Hi Mark, I have a 700r-4 in my 76 Vette. It was built by Premiere Performance about 6 or 7 years ago. I like it a lot and haven't had any problems with since I installed it. The engine that used to be in the Vette was about 325hp or so and it ran 13.8/9 @ 99-100mph w/ 3.70 gears. Not super powerful or abusive to the trans but a decent combo overall. The engine that's in the Vette these days is even less hp but it still goes good. I personally would never go back to the TH350 that was in it. Especially when I hit the highway w/ overdrive! cYa- Herb Lumpp1966 El Camino, LS6, 6 spd, Currie 9"ACES 3509, MCC 528http://users.adelphia.net/~hlump/ - Original Message - From: Mark Weber To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 3:41 PM Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] Transmission Bad. I will bring my 400 back from storage this weekend just in case. Does anybody else use a 700R4 behind a performance engine? Any other experiences with the Raptor 700r4, good or bad? Mark

I had to rebuild a 2004R twice last year for the same reason. These little smog car four speeds are not made for anything over 250hpeven when they are rebuilt by so called performance companies, they rarely put in the HD components necessary to give them the strength they need to handle the big torque numbers. The first thing they miss is the HD pump and the second is usually the stator. They also rarely put in the HD servo unit. My 200 (even after the second rebuild by an expert company) wasn't nearly as crisp a shifter as my TH-350 in the Elky. Anyway, the way I see it is either can the tranny and get one made by a major company (unless that's where you bought it from in the first place) that will stand behind it. If the one you have had a problem the first 150 miles, it'll probably not be much better the second time around. You could have it redone locally, but then it might cost you up to $1600. My advice? Get rid of the toy tranny and get yourself a good TH-400. I know it'll hurt gas mileage, but did you really build your car for mileage? If the answer is yes, then you might have to give them a shot at repairing it, but I'd rather gamble the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl next year than that!Kelly & Jana Hanna www.hannawoodworks.com
