  69
Well it has been sometime since I
have done anything to my project 69 Mallibu. Mainly because it has been
way to cold out and I had to get the 70 ready for World of Wheels. Now I
can finally get the 69 done. I found the last part I need to complete
it, the vinyl top moldings. True Connections out in California had a set
so I bought them up. Now I can make an appointment to get the top and
headliner done. However, it will need to go back to the body shop to
have some minor things fixed. I also may have to tear the front end
apart to repaint the firewall, heater box, and a few other things. The
voltage regulator needs to be replaced. I drove it to work and on the
way home I noticed the lights were unusually bright. It appears that it
had been pumping out way too many volts causing the battery to overcharger and
boi! l over. Acid got all over the firewall, heater box, and exhaust
manifold and made the paint flake right off to the touch (I knew that was
going to happen). Hopefully it will be ready to rock 'n roll for the
upcoming season. It WILL be at the MCC show last year. I had
planned to unveil it there last year, but you know how things happen and
whatnot. I'll update again once I am near
  completion.Tom

[Chevelle-List] Update on the 69

2002-03-21 Thread MICRLASER
Hey Gang

Here's another update on the 69 project.
Both 1/4 panels are on, I had the engine/tranny rebuilt, just got the engine back today. We are going to put the engine/tranny in the frame tomorrow and try to drop the body back on to the frame Sunday. I plan on having this car in the body shop by the end of this month. The only other things left to do are, fix the doors, sand the fenders, and patch the fenders where they always rot out. Then i'll put the doors, fenders, hood, trunk lid back on, reinstall the dash/wiring/steering column. While it's in the shop, i want to try and have the headliner Vinyl top installed as well to save some time. i will also send the seats out to be redone while its in the shop. Also in the meantime, I can acquire any trim and other interior pieces it may need so I can get it on the road as soon as possible when I get it back.
By the way, does anyone have a dark green standard steering wheel, the one I have is beat.

Tom

Actually,
I know somebody who has a dark green standard steering wheel in nice shape.
I've seen it in person. It was offered to me for my 69 but I didn't want to dye
it. I'll find out the details for you Tom and put you in touch with the owner.

Also, I am
on jury duty, so I'm really sorry for the unusual slowness in replying to
emails.

[Chevelle-List] Update on my 69 Project

2002-01-30 Thread MICRLASER
Well I thought I was going to be able to get the old 69 Malibu out to the paint shop by the end of this month, not gonna happen. The body work is mostly complete. We still have to hang the new 1/4s on.
I need an opinion here on the 1/4's too. The repro skins I bought extend over the rocker panels eliminating the 1/4 panel to rocker seam. What should I do about this? Is there any good way to cut off the extra and bend the 1/4 so I don't lose that seem?
I have rustproofed the nearly the entire car except the outer sheetmetal that will be painted with Eastwood's Corroless. I am still working on getting that wretched undercoating off the bottom, I am about 1/4 done, lol. After I am finished with that, I will rustproof the bottom with Corroless and paint it black. Once that is finished, I will remount the body to the frame, bolt it down, and reinstall the brake fuel lines. I have to still paint the firewall and reinstall all of the components that go one (master cylinder, wiper motor, heater box, etc.) The fenders, doors, hood, trunk still need to be sanded. I am debating wheter or not to send it out with the engine in it. I put the 454 in the 70 after it got painted, tried to be as careful as possible but still managed to clumsily scratch the fender extensions :(. I suppose I will have a nice work filled weekend busting my hump on this car. I will try to get some c!
urrent pics of it up on my AOL homepage.
Also, for those of you in the Maryland Chevelle Club, they will be running an ongoing step by step article in their newsletter over the next few months. My goal was to have it done and unvail it at the Maryland Chevelle Club/ACES NE Regionals in June. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

Don't feel bad Tom. I got my 69 into the
resto shop in November, and the guy hasn't even started it yet. He originally
said it would be ready by March. Somehow I think it will take a bit longer...

i brought my s10 to a shop for a back half pro-street, with a large deposit.
it sat for 2- years before the guy started to work on it, then in about
3-months time he cruised on it, called me one day (unexpected to me) wanted a
ton more money- i paid him, and was out of money, he kicked me out of the
shop, now i have a bare metal s10 in cold MN storage- hope it don't
rust!!!-

How many cars do you have? I can't imagine letting a project drag on 2
years without any progress

i think 12 at the current, i thought thats how all the chassis shops were.
it seems to be the case here, if you look in the newest car craft there is a
blue corvette in there, this was at another shop here in mn- that car was
hanging from the ceiling for over 3- years without any thing being done,
another guy has a 56 chev wagon there with only some core support work to be
done and i know that has been there over 5- years!!
