RE: [Chevelle-List] frames
Ah Ha! One I can answer! Andre, Any 68 to 72 A-body frame. An A-body is any of the other similar GM cars like the Pontiac Lemans & GTO, Olds Cutlass, Buick Skylark, etc. Just make sure the donor car is a 68-72 AND a 2-door. ElCaminos and 4-doors have longer frames. Convertible frames are the same length but are re-enforced, heavier, and more expensive. Well class, how did I do? Good luck Andre. Make sure it is straight and as rust-free as possible. RE: [Chevelle-List] frames & whatnot
Unfortunately, I know... I've checked wheels, rebuilt the entire rear end assembly, bought a new driveshaft, pinion flange and U joints. The engine spins out just fine so the balancer, flywheel, and other stuff is fine. Entire front suspension is new, BTW. So, I'm back to driveshaft... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, September 20, 2002 10:20 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] frames & whatnot there are tons of things that can cause vibrations. [Chevelle-List] frames & whatnot
Well, in the effort to chase down my driveline vibration, I finally took the car to a frame specialist and paid him to dimension the car from stem to stern. His response: The frame is perfect. Never been hit, never pulled, never even been tied to the floor. It's square, the rails are the correct length, etc. BUT, the rear axle still does not LOOK exactly correct. He says optical illusion - the numbers don't lie. What I THOUGHT was a thrust angle problem turns out to be a CAMBER problem. The search goes on. BTW, he echoed that vibrations are almost always the driveshaft or connected parts (flange, output shaft, etc.). Craig E.
