It has some minor problems, but nothing that can’t be solved and the

an email with pictures of the truck. It looks great other than some small
blemishes. I will repaint the whole truck at some future time, but I need
to touch up the problems for now, plus I want to paint the truck the
exact colors again.

Dan,

I'm a PPG jobber. The color you are looking for really
isn't an issue. I use my PPG Prophet probably 8 to 10 times a
day on the average. I find that as long as I have the computer make a
formula in either Deltron DBC basecoat or PPG Global (my personal
favorite) I have a 95% hit rate.

Granted, if you don't plan on blending your repairs,
even if you find the exact colors the truck was painted you won't get a
100% match.

Paint chips aren't a true indicator of color either.
I've seen variations in color books produced by the same
manufacturer.

Color match can be affected by a great number of things.
Spray gun choice, different air cap / fluid nozzle combinations, air
pressure, solvent choice, environmental conditions, painter technique
etc.

The truth is; You and I could each paint something with
the same can of paint and end up with a visibly different color.

Have a paint jobber read the truck with their computer
and generate a formula. Have them print you a copy of the formula to save
and you will never have to wonder about your colors again.

Rick the paint website helped. I sent it to the owner and he thinks he
knows the color. I will still get the color scanned to verify if he is right in
Rosenberg
at AJ Foyts paint. We still dont know the trim color, but
were working on it. One problem is viewing the color on your monitor. I
plan on checking the color chip out at a local body shop tomorrow.

I have also sent emails to PPG and DuPont. What will it hurt?

Again thanks!

I have called so many people trying to find the original owner. I'm not
through looking, but it hasn't been easy! The truck looks great and the
color combination is so unique, and it would not be my choice if I was going
to have a truck painted, but...after you look at it a while, you really like
it. Everyone I have sent a picture to, including Primedia Publications liked
it! It has a few small problem areas and only needs a touch up not a repaint
job.

The second owner said he thought it was Ford Colors from around 1990. I
don't know where to look for 1990's Ford paint colors. I thought he told me
Chevy colors, now it's Ford colors, but I might have heard him wrong! I wish
I could find the magazine and article the truck was in!

I know this is off topic, but I'm buying a 1946 Chevy Truck. It has a few
paint spot problems I want to correct, but I don't want to repaint the
whole
truck. Even if I had to paint the whole truck I would want it painted the
 same colors.

The problem is, the original owner that had the truck painted, got a
divorce
and moved away, and to date I have not been able to find him! His name is
a
popular one and I found about 100 Jim Baird's with no assurance any are
him.

What can you do to find out what colors you have on a vehicle? I know the
truck was painted in Austin, TX., which should narrow it down to several
million choices. I need some spiritual help! Surely there is a way to run
a
spectral analysis of a paint color.

I was told the colors are Chevy colors that are about 17 years old! I have
my doubts. The truck was in a magazine called Pickups and Panel
Trucks I
was told. No one hasheard of the magazine including the editor
of
Primedia
 Publications

AJ Foyt in Rosenberg
has one. I asked how accurate it was, and they said some times very accurate,
some times not! Im still trying to find the original owner. I have hit
plenty of dead ends trying!

Thanks

The best way that I know of to do it is
take a piece of the vehicle that is painted and you can remove to an auto paint
place and have them put it on a spectrograph to breakdown the colors that are
in it.

Dan There is or was a website at www.autocolorlibrary.com You could look at most colors from 1980 to present. BUT I ggogled to find it, and each time I click on the link, IE locks up. May be something going on here at work. When I used it in the past, it was an excellent site to look at a variety of colors.
