Re: [Chevelle-list] Royal Purple oil
Bill/Harlan, Thanks for the input on the Royal Purple oil. Bill, glad there'sno more motor problems. Harlan, thanks for your input as well, yes Royal Purple is a synthetic and supposedly a good one at that. The only thing I have heard not to do with synthetic oil is use it for break in of a new motor, I've heard you should put some miles on with conventional oil before switching to synthetic. But why then do all the new Corvettes and I think Viperstoo come straight from the factory with Mobil 1? Don't know. I'm defiantly changing to Royal Purple before I get the Chevelle out in the spring. I'll let you know if I see any changes. Bob (They have an extensive web site but I dont have a link handy. Sorry)
RE: [Chevelle-list] Royal Purple oil
I get Royal Purple 20-50 for 5.87 a quart. Ive been using it for about 10 months in the car. I dont street it much, mostly drag racing, but it works good for me. If so what's it costing per quart and what weight are you using. Thanks Bob
Re: [Chevelle-list] Royal Purple oil
Bill, Thanks for the reply. Did you notice any changes with the Royal Purple oil with respect to idle speed? What about performance? E.T. or trap speed? Also weren't you the one with the 454 that ate thrust bearings? As I remember the solution was polishing the crank thrust surfacesand no more problems. RE: [Chevelle-list] Royal Purple oil
I didnt really notice any difference in idle speed. The car has gotten progressively quicker though. I think tuning and weather has more to do with that than the oil though. Yes I am the one that was eating thrust bearings. Polishing the thrust face was the answer. So far the car has gone a best of 11.53 @ 115.41 on motor. I did have to lower the idle about 100 RPM on my Harley after switching to Royal Purple.
