RE: [Chevelle-list] Summit vs. Jeg's

2005-12-09 Thread Dan Mascheck
While I still like Summit, I bought two 750 Holleys, and wanted the shiny
finish. When they arrived I immediately shipped them to BDS for dyno-tuning.
They cam back and I took them to my mechanic friend...We never opened the
boxs. We both got very busy so the carbs sat there for months. When we
finally opened the boxes...I was surprised they were the old gold style not
the shiny silver ones I thought I bought!

I called Summit, they said they would take them back, but because it had
been so long( 8 or 9 months) since I bought them, they would charge me a 15%
re-stocking fee. I was a bit pissed, because I ordered the silver 750's.
Well...I checked about the cost and time it would take to re-dyno some new
carbs, the cost and mostly the backlog told me to suck it up!

I have had so few problems, and it may be the sales rep I spoke to!

Hi Fred,

That was nice of them! I remember I bought something from Summit and never
used it. I think a year or more went by and I called and asked if I could
return it and the guy said as long as I have the receipt and the part isn't
used/damaged they would give me a refund. I got my money back and used it
to buy something else from them. I think I have a sickness of some kind -
at least that's what my wife tells me!

Hi Herb,

I have also pretty much totally switched from Jeg's to Summit. I
particularly like their "no questions asked" return policy. Why, I even
successfully returned a cam after I had installed it and found the
resulting piston-to -valve clearance to be too close.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Summit vs. Jeg's

2005-12-09 Thread Dan Mascheck

I have bought from both, but Summit
seemed more aggressive in a positive way in helping me many times. I may have
been lucky getting a better salesman each time, but Jegs has done little for
me!

The only time I have had a problem with Summit, was due to pricing. I called Flaming River recently about a paint-able
steering column for my 72, plus a new 12:1 power steering unit. I told Summit they were a bit
higher, than buying it direct from F.R..  They said they would do a price
check and could meet or beat F.R.. Summit
came back online and said they could not meet or beat their price. SURPRISING
to me! So….I bought the parts direct from F.R..It’s unusual to see
a manufacturer price something lower than their dealer. The price I got from
F.R. was nothing special…it was the one out of the website…FIGURE!?

RE: [Chevelle-list] Summit vs. Jeg's

2005-12-08 Thread Herb Lumpp
I don't have a problem with Jeg's, I order from them when Summit doesn't
have what I want in stock. For some reason I always went to Summit first.
When I was told sorry, that's when a bell went off and I realized it's the
little things that Summit does for me that keeps me going back to them
first.

That's a helpful observation Herb. Like you, I have on several occasions
remembered things I forgot after the order, but I just assumed once the
order was in, it was too late. That's good to know.

What I do is visit the Summit site quite regularly, and as I think of
things, I just put it in my basket. About once a week, I'll go back and
process the order. I hope all this buying slows down as the car comes
together...

I find Jeg's website a bit cumbersome to navigate, so I have never bought
anything there.

Now I know why I prefer Summit over Jeg's...

A couple of times in the past when I placed internet orders from Summit,
the
next morning I realized I forgot something. I'd call Summit, talk to the
customer service rep and ask if I can add the forgotten items. "No
problem"
the rep would say, "what part numbers do you need to add?" Sure enough

  my

original order would arrive in one box along with a second box containing
the forgotten items with no extra "handling" charge.

Last night I ordered some stuff from Jeg's and sure enough I woke up this
morning and damn it if I didn't forget something. I called Jeg's a few
minutes ago and the rep says "Sorry, the box is already loaded on the

  truck

for shipping." I know it's my own fault for forgetting, but at least
Summit
is willing to do something!

I purchase from both and usually only buy from Jeg's if Summit
doesn't carry or is backordered on a part. Summit is just down the
road and several of my friends work in customer service. I'll tell
them to keep up the good work ;-)

Hi Herb,

I have also pretty much totally switched from Jeg's to Summit. I
particularly like their "no questions asked" return policy. Why, I even
successfully returned a cam after I had installed it and found the
resulting piston-to -valve clearance to be too close.
