You guys have any suggestions?? Here's his story Morning guys (or gals, depending on who opens this email), I’m having trouble with the starter on the Chevelle. Last night I went to start the car it wouldn’t start. Turn the key and nothing. No click, no nothing. Everything else works, headlights, radio, interior light, etc. I was able to jump start the car by coasting and letting the clutch out. It took me about twenty-five minutes to get home. I turned the car off once in the garage, then tried starting the car again. The car started without hesitation. This is typical when ever I experience this problem. This might happen twice in a week or it may happen once every couple months. The only consistency is it never seems to happen in cool weather. I’m considering the following items next, - by passing the neutral safety switch. - installing a new ignition switch. A little history, This started around three years ago. At that time I had a rebuilt GM high torque starter. I installed a reduction starter from Jeg’s about six weeks ago giving into the heat soak theory with the stock starter and headers. I considered changing the battery cable along with the starter but it looked in perfect shape, no damage or corrosion. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance! Donnie

Donnie I agree with Phil... Tell them to get new cables. Corrosion usually happens inside the jacket of the cable and reduces the amount of current it can carry. A friend at work had a similar experience. We fixed it by cleaning & retightening all the grounds in the engine compartment. good luck On 8/1/06, mike f <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Donnie, have him disconnect the battery ground.disconnect the solenoid wire off the starter and put VOM on it. Re: [Chevelle-list] Trouble with the starter on the 69 Chevelle
I agree with the solenoid idea. Also keep in mind just because a cable looks good doesn't mean it is. You can never get enough ground in my opinion so I have a new ground cable from the battery to the head on the engine (not the alternator bracket)as well as the heavier wire also from the negative battery cable to the fender using a star washer. Hope this helps ... keep at it! Re: [Chevelle-list] Trouble with the starter on the 69 Chevelle
I always start with the easiest fix. No juice, no click, no nothing & the acc's work. Assuming it's a good battery, dirty or poor battery contacts. It's not the corrosion you can see, it's what you can't see between the cables & the posts. Try cleaning the cables & posts & check all contacts. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think the hot weather may also have an effect on a corrosive lead contact. I earned a steak dinner & a night with a pretty girl on this exact thing many, many, many years ago!!
