with bench seat,350,350 combo with posi rear and disc breaks...I am just
going on what I was told,I haven;t reshearched it..I have had the car for
about 20 yrs and both my daughters drove it during thier high school
yrs...now it is mine and I love just crusing in it...I had the engine
built..new alumn.heads,etc,etc.now around 400 hp...but I still have all the

It's one of those #'s matching 138xx 68 SS, Seafrost Green, black vinyl
top, bench seat, column shift, 350hp, TH400, 3.07 rear, Chevelles that's
going to stay as original as I can keep it, but I still drive it every
where it goes. I traded a 9.90 sec 76 Nova drag car for it.

Re: [Chevelle-list] What Year is Yours?

2005-12-31 Thread Ron Malespin

Everyone is telling stories so I guess I will tell mine to finish off
2005!  I had a failed attempt to buy a 67SS in Oklahoma City on Ebay.
I lost my down payment of $2k.  I had almost given up on finding a Chevelle
and one Sat. morning there was an add in the paper for a 67 Malibu in a city
close to me.  It was an amazingly low price so I called and said DON'T SELL
THE CAR UNTIL I LOOK AT IT!!!  This guy had been building cars for a long
time.  It was a fully restored 67 Malibu but he had built it to be a driver
drag car.  I wrote a check in less than 5 min. after seeing the car.
I have since put on all the emblems, new bumpers, grills, etc.  Just the
detail stuff.

I knew little or nothing about the mechanics of the car as he had kept no
paperwork.  It has a 350 400hp engine.  I could not figure out what
the tranny was as it acts like 4:11's in 1st, 2nd, 3rd with a huge 4th gear
where it does about 2200 rpm at 75 mph.  I took off the solid aluminum
Einke rims and put on Cragars a few months ago.  The car looks sweet!
I called the original builder and said I would give the rims back at no cost
since he gave me such a sweet deal on the car.  He came by and told me more
about the car than I ever knew.  It has 3:08 rear gears.  The tranny
is a Saginaw out of a truck.  That explains the short first gears and the
tall last gear.  It is not original Chevelle parts but it is a great set
up.  I can light them up all the way through 3rd gear and still casually
cruise down the freeway.

The most important thing is that I have a beautiful 67 sitting in my garage
that I drive as often as possible!

Seems like there are not very many 64 and 65 chevelle's or elkys that are
owned by people on the list . What do most people have , by year.

From what the previous owner said, it was a rebuilt 65.  >From
what I have heard they put a Edlebrock cam kit to bust the HP
to 325 or 350.  The numbers on the block is a J serious, which
tells me it was a 283.   So I might have bought a good story, but
it runs well.   It does have a cam for sure, the performer intake,
and 4 barrel.   Wish I know it was really a 327.  some day
might have to open the engine up and really see what I have.

This car is not a numbers car, but it sure does look nice.
But not super tricked out.

64 El Camino, 327, 325 HP, Muncie 4 speed. Love the rush of the cam
and 4 barrel kicking in then shift into second.  I think that is
the main reason I purchased a second 64 El Camino.

Sold 64 El Camino, 283 when I was in High school.
Sold 71 El Camino SS..friend totaled it.

By the way any one know how I can change out the floor shifter from
a hurst, that has a 2 bolt, vertical pattern to a Muncie style that
is 2 bold horizontal pattern.  I like the S shape shifter I had
with my first 64 El Camino.  With the T at the top.

Thank you,
Kelly

A friend of mine found a Tri-Power Olds Intake Casting #393238 with
carbs in the trunk of an old car. This appears to be for a 1966 442.
It's in pretty rough shape. Trying to find out how rare it is and what
it's worth. Can anyone put me in the right direction?

Title: Message

    I have a 67SS that I bought in
1971. Drove it in high school and a few years after. A friend blew up the 396
and never got around to paying for it. After a few years I thought I
wanted to drive it again so I put in a 428 Pontiac motor and it just didn't run
good enough so I lost interest. Then I thought I wanted to drag race it so I put
in some 4.56's and a pretty hot 327 and played with it a few times on the street
but never made it to a strip. Then around 77 or so I put it in the back of my
shop in New Mexico and it stayed there till about 4 years ago and I thought
it would be cool to get it out and restore it back to original for 30
my year class reunion (2003). Took the body off and blasted the frame and
got all the suspension and running gear all rebuilt and looking better
than new. Got the underside of the body looking show quality and back on the
frame with new body mounts. Then about a year into the resto I got
kicked out of the house and had to put the old chevelle in a storage shed
till I can get me another shop here in Houston. Maybe this spring I will get
back on it.

Re: [Chevelle-list] what year is yours?

2005-12-29 Thread Gene Smith

Hi,
I have many Chevelles,  most of which
are in the raw material stage. In order of year I have

66 Malibu with ss emblems which were put on long
enough ago to make the car a fake super sport
67 SS car, a true 138 car my dad bought in 69,
will be my next project and will be a six speed fuel injected big
block
67 Malibu I bought from a guy whose house burnt
down, will always be an emblemless car w/ a small block, I plan on mini tubbing
it. I drove it for a few years with a 383 in it. It was a fast beater type of
car.
67 Malibu hard top which will probably become a
convertible since I have what is left from a 67 conv. car to change one over.
That is if I don't make the 66 a clone ss convertible, seeing as how I have had
two actual 66 138 converts slip thru my fingers in years past
69 Malibu, my current project car which will be
set up as a driver, with air and power windows, doors, trunk, etc. All handles,
locks, marker lights and emblems will be shaved. It has a long
rod 383 and turbo 350 which I want to add a gear vendors overdrive to
someday.
A 70 six cylinder car that I want to build as a
phantom 70 heavy Chevy. It will be a 400 small block, 4 speed car built as if GM
had built a road runner type chevelle, i.e. no options, rubber floor mat,
radio delete, manual brakes, etc with a small block.
A second 70 which will probably end up being a
parts car to the heavy Chevy phantom.

The non Chevelles I own include but are
not limited to a 55 Chevy truck with a heavy chop, 35 Chevy 5 window coupe, 73
Plymouth duster (how the hell did that get in there!?! ) 55 210 car, 84 s-15
converted to v-8 power, a 78 w/80 front end 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive, 79 sunbird
Pontiac that either needs a turbo added to the iron duke or a small block
transplant and three different Olds 88/98 derivatives that serve as  daily
driver status.

That is why I started the reproduction
retail business, to build some of these cars as promotional vehicles and to be
able to get parts for them cheap, as well as use them as tax write
offs!

From what the previous owner said, it was a rebuilt 65.  >From what I
have heard they put a Edlebrock cam kit to bust the HP to 325
or 350.  The numbers on the block is a J serious, which tells me it was a
  283.   So I might have bought a good story, but it runs
well.   It does have a cam for sure, the performer intake, and 4
barrel.   Wish I know it was really a 327.  some day might have
to open the engine up and really see what I have.

This car is not a numbers car, but it sure does look nice.
  But not super tricked out.

64 El Camino, 327, 325 HP, Muncie 4 speed. Love the rush of the cam
and 4 barrel kicking in then shift into second.  I think that is the
main reason I purchased a second 64 El Camino.

Sold 64 El Camino, 283 when I was in High school.
Sold 71 El Camino SS..friend totaled it.

By the way any one know how I can change out the floor shifter from a
hurst, that has a 2 bolt, vertical pattern to a Muncie style that is
2 bold horizontal pattern.  I like the S shape shifter I had with my
first 64 El Camino.  With the T at the top.

  Thank you,
  Kelly

I've seen Kelly's Elkie and it is a nice one. Kelly bring it by or call me
and I will stop over and run the numbers .

From what the previous owner said, it was a rebuilt 65.  From what I
have heard they put a Edlebrock cam kit to bust the HP to 325 or

But
not super tricked out.

Two 1966 SS's - one restored and summer-driven convertible; and one hardtop
