Re: [Chevelle-list] alt light 71 elky
All alternators are suppose to charge at idle, hence no light. That is one of the reasons the car manufacturers went to them. They are far superior to a generator in charging at idle or any speed for that matter. My "69" with an alternator has no gen light at idle. Just my two cents. Re: [Chevelle-list] alt light 71 elky
A one wire alternator won't charge until the first time the motor reaches 1800 to 2000 RPM but I believe he said he had an alternator with an external regulator. I agree with the others who said to check connections and the belt. If that doesn't fix the problem it's time to have the alternator checked out by a repair shop. That's not true. The light should not be on at idle. Probably a loose belt or your battery is not holding a charge. Quoting Dan Rachlin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: I think some alternators dont charge at idle

Re: [Chevelle-list] alt light 71 elky
It's functioning as it's supposed to. It only comes on when the regulator is overcharging or undercharing the battery.
