Hullo Dale,
The section that you refer to is extremely helpful as it acts as a guide to what options you would want to add to your restoration project.  I am busy with a 65 Malibu that was CKD'd to GM South Africa from Canada  1965 and has many unique features!

Fibreglass dash
No removable Instrument cluster
Flat face plate
Power Windows
No Heater
No power steering
No nothing
Absolute basic!
Lost of options to fit!

Chevrolet did not retain any statistical records on option combinations. It is impossible to know with certainty the exact production number in situations of multi-option combinations.  However, Chevrolet did report individual regular production option items and the series/model it could be ordered on.  For 1970 numbers, see http://www.chevellestuff.com/1970/options_by_model.htm for a list of options and http://www.chevellestuff.com/1970/style_prod_no.htm for list of body styles sold.

Currently I have 2 on heavy duty pallets and 2 on engine stands while the rest
are lined neatly against the wall, along with my lone M22 that was in my black
car when I bought it. Today after I posted I may have come up with another
scheme to get them stored and out of the weather. I remember some tin up at my
brothers house that he told me to get, we have a sawmill, I can build a shed
for next to nothing, now if I can make myself stop wrenching on the cars and do
it!

Re: [Chevelle-list] Hello? / Engine Storage Box

2008-02-14 Thread dennis.mcgillis

Hi Jim,

Is it the plastic storage box or the $220 that is overkill? The 283 will be
stored outdoors and even with our temperate southern California climate it
would rust badly if just sitting on the pallet so I found the box and also
an engine bag from Eastwood which is supposed to minimize corrosion. And
yup, I did all the normal things to preserve it.

Thanks,
Dennis

Isn't that overkill? Did you flush the cooling system and change the oil?
Spray the cylinders down to keep the rings from rusting?

The list does seem unusually quiet. Maybe no one is working on their cars.

I received the plastic shipping crate ($220 from www.scribnerplastics.com)
to store my original 283. Now the trick will be to mount the engine and
wrestle it to the storage place.

Buy yourself an Asseembly manual for your 66 Chevelle.  It will answer so many of your questions.  They can be had, in re-produced copy thru many a automotive book dealer, also found in a Hemmings book (for one).  Just my 2 cents worth.

Need a little more info on the car.  What year is it?  If it's a 72, the engine code is in the VIN, otherwise, there is only a way to tell if it's a 6 banger or a V-8 car.  If it's a 66-68, all SS cars had big blocks and also have a different model series number than their small block counterparts.

Depending on the year of car the VIN
sometimes tells you what engine came with it originally.  Tell us what you
have and maybe we can help you.

Hi!  I just wanted
to say hello to all and share my great find.  I just purchased a 72
chevelle 4 dr sedan.  I know its a 4dr, but everything is still factory
except for the steering wheel.  All the #s match, has the factory hubcaps,
spare tire and jack, seat belt alarm with shoulder straps, headliner and
interior is in GREAT shape, (except I need a glove box door).  She still
has original paint, 43 sea mist green metallic.  I love older cars, and
this to me was like hitting the lottery.  I have had a few 2drs before,
but never this close to factory.

Well, thanks for letting
me share my wonderful find. Hopefully I will get pictures soon.

Have a great day, love
the list!!!

  everyone

Hi!  I just wanted to say hello to all and share my great
  find.  I just purchased a 72 chevelle 4 dr sedan.  I know its a 4dr,
but everything is still factory except for the steering wheel.  All the
#s match, has the factory hubcaps, spare tire and jack, seat belt alarm with
shoulder straps, headliner and interior is in GREAT shape, (except I need a
glove box door).  She still has original paint, 43 sea mist green
metallic.  I love older cars, and this to me was like hitting the
lottery.  I have had a few 2drs before, but never this close to
  factory.

Well, thanks for letting me share my wonderful find. Hopefully I will get
  pictures soon.

Have a great day, love the list!!!
