Very good point. That's precisely why I sold my Chevy truck (that I bought

still feel that way next Spring,I might not buy a new vehicle at all. Can buy an

There is a strong movement afoot to have cars and
trucks lumped together in the CAFE standards. That will swing the pendulum back
towards cars becoming a larger part of our lives. I doubt we will see
light trucks and SUV's comprise over 60% of new vehicle sales in the
future.

I can certainly agree with what you're saying,Chuck. Was going to build a
496" BBC for my car but am re-thinking that strategy now. I purchased some
Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and intake, along with a hydraulic roller cam
set-up for my 350 SBC. Just sold the cam to buy another one more suited to
my new combination.
High fuel prices will force a lot of people to curtail useage and that will
bring down demand. It won't happen overnight but it will happen.

I think the increase in fuel cost that is going to be coming is going to
have all of us rethinking our plans and goals.
I had planned in the near future to replace my stock 350 with a 390 hp 350
that burned 87 octane, but now I am really rethinking it and when I do it
may option the 350 325 hp using 87 octane instead or perhaps even the 280 hp
if prices get too extreme by the time I make the move. I would like the
more power, but do not race the car just do shows and cruises, but like to
have the power if I need or want to eat some rice. Even with that I will
more than likely reduce the miles driven with the Chevelle, and really think
hard about any long road trips. I live in a suburb of Chicago and filled
the tank last night with 93 octane before the prices have gone up where they
are going to and it cost $43.00 and the tank wasn't empty. The way the
current engine is setup a tank doesn't last very far. I guess being unable
to even go to any shows or cruises because of the back surgeries I currently
going thru is saving me a lot of gas money right now. More money for the
various parts needed for this winters projects, and perhaps this savings
will allow one or two other projects I didn't think I would be able to
afford.

was 4000 so it was a deal but let me ask ya are you prepared to pay repair bills
on a vw they are expensive even if you fix it yourself i live in atlanta were
parts should not be hard to git but for a jetta it took a week for me to git a
p/s pump and it was hooked to the water pump so i was with out it for a week.so
my chevelle? uhhh for a small block parts are plentiful and affordable hell the
fun it is to drive plus dependability i dont see were i can go wrong ,your desil
will only git that fuel econmy if it is in perfect tune and that calls for part
replacement quicker than u would think my chevelle will git ablot 20 or so mpg
as long as i can stay outta the fours lol but no matter what decision i make i
doubt i will buy another vw or european car

There are some fuel cells that can use propane for the hydrogen, while still

The problem with cell cars is that it takes carbon

surprising performance for an economy car. The better mileage more than
justifies the added cost of diesel,IMO.

The problem with cell cars is that it takes carbon
based energy to make hydrogen. Process is wasteful.
It's a fantasy yet.

Anybody else out there seen the Honda (gasp!!) natural gas
powered car that you can fill up at home? Cheaper power and save time not going
to the gas station, not to mention it will be easier on the waist if you're like
me and have to have a snickers bar with every fill up too!

That's the kind of car GM needs to make or get the fuel
cell cars to market sooner. That will be the only good thing about the
increased gas cost.

I think we brought these cost on ourselves as a
nation by not being more conservitive, such as SUV's being used
as commuter cars.

some technically difficult questions and keep us busy.

I was going to write about it being winter here in
Texas (our summer = North winter) and it 95 degrees in
my garage at 9:00 at night. Had to chase a couple of
copperheads out of the garage couple of saturdays ago.
Not much progress can be made with the outside temps
being what they are. So, I'll stay in and order more
parts.

Higher fuel costs will spur development of more & better cars. Truck and SUV
sales are going to take a huge hit,IMO,because most people really don't need

I've never been much of a fan of GM's small car offerings,,until the
introduction of the new Cobalt. From what I've been reading, this car is a
serious piece of technology, especially in its suspension design.
Cammer motors are nice but way too complicated and costly. The new Z06 is
going to kill the majority of the other exotic sportscars.
