Re: [Chevelle-list] rear tranny seal
Thanks for the tip! I think I would of done something similar. Those things can be a pain in the butt. Reminds me of my friends favorite car related saying With brute force and ignorance you can accomplish anything. Haha I think he has a good point. :o) -Original Message- From: John Nasta [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Thu, 15 May 2008 7:20 pm Subject: [Chevelle-list] rear tranny seal I finally got around to changing my rear tranny seal today. I had an opportunity to use a friend's garage rather than lying in the street, so I carpe'd the diem.? ? I just want to pass on to you guys that the trick I found that worked for me was to punch right through metal of the old seal as close as possible to the outer edge with a small sharp flat screwdriver, followed by a bigger stronger screwdriver to make a nice-sized gap in the metal. Next get the small screwdriver between the tailshaft housing and the seal next to your new slit to deform the outer edge of the seal, and then use the big screwdriver to pry the seal out using the tailshaft housing as a pivot point. With this method it resisted a little then suddenly popped right out.? ? Things that did not work:? ? Prying from the inside? ? Going to auto parts stores - 3 places didn't have a seal removal tool and told me to use a screwdriver!? ? Good luck out there...? ? ?

[Chevelle-list] rear tranny seal
I need to replace my rear tranny seal. It is a TH350 from a 70 Chevelle. My local parts guy says he is showing three different shaft sizes but one of the three comes up much more often in his sales history, meaning that it is either the most popular size *(or just the one that wears out the fastest)*. My original driveshaft (a 1969 El Camino w/ PG) fit right into the TH350 tranny, so it has to be a common size shaft. Does anybody know off-hand what the shaft size is supposed to be? Thanks, John Nasta
Re: [Chevelle-list] rear tranny seal
Can you pull the seal and then take it to the shop? Should be easier to nail down that way. Jim '66 Malibu --- John Nasta [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I need to replace my rear tranny seal. Re: [Chevelle-list] rear tranny seal
Take the tail shaft off the trans, only 4 bolts hold it on, just make sure you get a new O ring for it. There are 2 seals, 1 is for the TH400/M22, the other is for TH350/PG. Tom
