Re: [Chevelle-list] transmission choice

Agree with
Rick, a 400 would be overkill, one reason Chevrolet installed the TH350 behind small
blocks. A 700R4 or 2004R would be good choices if you want an O/D
unit. Ive never had both in the same car so I cant offer a
true comparison. The 700R4 has a 3.06 low gear and .70 in O/D where the
2004R has a 2.74 and .67 O/D. Unless theres something wrong with
yourTH350 and/or you dont do much highway driving to really warrant the
O/Ds obvious positive feature the TH350 should be just fine IMO.

 The 400
would be overkill for your use. The 700 is a good choice, but how
much highway driving do you do? Around town my 700 yields about the
same mpg as the 350. On the highway it does make a noticeable difference.
The 350 is not a bad choice and it is slightly easier to rebuild maintain
than the 700.

ride for street use not to race, and sometimes as a daily driver, and freeway
use too. What sounds good to get: a 400 or a 700 transmission? Do these have
any cons for ugrading? Would any of these two trans will they do more harm than
good? OR Am I good with my 350 transmission? thanks all!

Eddie, Sounds like you are bored and looking for
something to work on. Leave your tranny as is and come on over to my house
to help put my '69 back together. I can find lots for you to
do.
