RE: [Chevelle-List] 67 Radiator
I've had the car for 14 years now and have had 4 other 67's and a 69 w/big blocks and never broken a motor mount. Not to say there won't be a first time though. In order to run the March setup I have, it only works with a long pump setup. I *MIGHT* be able to get away with running dual fans as long as there's room between the fans for the long pump snout. All that said, that's not my inquiry; it's the thickness of the radiator itself. With the long pump, regardless of mechanical or electric fans, there's still the distance from pump to radiator. That's why I asked for input on radiator thickness being run by fellow list members. RE: [Chevelle-List] 67 Radiator
My advice is to be careful with the long water pump setup. I ran it in my 67 SS for a long time, but was never comfortable with how close the fan was to the core. I broke a motor mount once and put the fan right into a two month old four core rad. If I had it to do over again, I'd ditch the belt driven fan in favor of electrics. Just my two cents worth. With the flex fan, there is about 1.5" of clearance between the fins and fan. I don't think I could go any thicker, like the 3.25" Griffin. Anyone with a Be Cool out there in a 67 that can measure the thickness of the tank? Dunno about the 'original replacement' AL radiators that Griffin or Be Cool sells. Most AL radiators that I have seen have a couple of rows of 1" tubing in them so I would say 2" is a minimum. Maybe some one here will know if it's original. I will say that it works really well. It does not have the shroud and the car always runs at about 180-190. I have a 67 Camero with a 3 row HE that I had built especially for the car and with a shroud and factory fan abd electric fan I still can't run the air in traffic or it'll go to 230go figure.
