3902406 was a 1967 block number. used in the
325,350,375hp engines, 24 bolt. A PF35 should work
just fine. I use the PF25 on my car, the 35 is just
the longer version of the 25, has a slightly larger
capacity.

Did those engines come with spin on filters?
If not could different brands of adaptors use different filters?

1967 blocks still used the canister filter. If memory serves,I've seen some
adapters that require Ford filters and some GM...could be the difference
you're experiencing.

  I find the CKD suffix for a 72 350 4-bbl, 175hp L48w/Turbo 350 trans., "V" for Flint,
MI,but the 10 O6 is confusing. That's usually the date but the
month would come first such as 06 (June) and then the day
  (10).?

I
think 1970 is when Chevy went to a 3 character suffix code (not positive but
pretty sure) so a 71 block would be appropriate. If both are '0' (zero),
then it could be 10 (October) 06 the day.

Early VINs will allow you to differentiate between a 6
and a V-8, and sometime in the early '70s IIRC the VIN
was expanded to contain a code character that provided
more specific information.

Just forward of the passenger-side cylinder head should
be a flat machined pad. What's stamped into it? IIRC
around '68 GM started stamping each engine with the
partial VIN of the vehicle it was going into.

I have not been paying that much attention to this thread, but on my 350,
the engine ID was on the block. When the machine shop was finished with
shaving the deck, the ID was gone.

For what it is worth, there is a ledge in front of the head on the 350
block. As I recall it is on the driver's side and about 1/2-1/4 wide. The
numbers are stamped into that ledge.

There is another raised number on the casting on the side of the block,
which is a generic one telling what general group of blocks that it belongs
to. Lastly, there are some numbers under the timing chain cover that gives
you the block content. I believe it is nickel and tin content in the
casting. The higher the number, the better because it is an index of
hardness. For example my 307 was low and wore out in less than 50,000
miles. My 350 had high numbers and it was over 150,000 miles and still did
not burn oil or foul plugs. that is why the 307 went into the scap heap and
the 350 into the car.

the engine id tag on my 69 350 and 69 307 are behind the altenator. I had the 350 machined and now its lost forever. The casting number will tell what car or cars ot came out of. I can look it up in the book I have here. I don't plan on doing anything to the 307 out of the 69 chevelle before i put it back in except a valve job, timing chain, and maybe rering it. It has a 106,000 miles and ran very smooth when i took it out. It never fouled any plugs the whole time I had it. It even has the original water pump on it.
