You might want to check with Scott at Classic Motorsports Group 760-438-2244.?
I am sure they will have the answer to your question.? I got my TKO 600 from
them last fall and they were helpful with all of the technical questions.

I'm not sure, you should be able to go to a tranny shop and ask them.

2008-06-02 Thread Brad Waller
10 MPH at what speed? If it says you're doing 20 when you think you are
doing 30, then you need 2/3 the number of teeth. If it reads 90 when you
think you are doing 100, then you need 9/10 the number. At least I think it
goes that way and not that you need more teeth...

Either way, you need the ratio that it is off to figure out the right gear.

Hi guys, just a quick one. If your speedo shows 10 mph less than you are
going do you need a gear with more or less teeth to get it up to the correct
mph? Thanks again Steve

Re: [Chevelle-list] Speedo Gear - Metal?

2005-05-04 Thread Mike Holleman
Mark, Have you changed the gear size? There are two different sized drive
gears for the output shaft and a corresponding range of plastic driven
gears. If you mismatch them they get chewed up. It's unlikely that the gear
on the shaft has moved. It is a press fit and should be fairly centered in
the speedo drive hole. Look in and see if it is way off center. My best
guess would be mismatched gear sizes. I believe we have a tranny expert or
two on the list. Maybe one will post a better answer.

 Hi All,

I have a 4 speed on my yenko that is chewing up the plastic speedo gears.
 Does anyone make
the gear in metal? Before I pull the trans, I want to exhaust all my
 options.

Why is it chewing up plastic gears? It seems like something else would have
to be wrong for these gears to be chewed up. It's been so long since I have
been into a Muncieis there anything to align the speedo drive gear?

Something must be out of alignment. Better to chew up the plastic gears
than metal ones in the trans till the problem is found.

Jim,
Not sure what formulas you need, but on the website it has quite a few of
them that you may be referring to.
http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref24.html
Not sure if you know this already or not, but I got this off of the website
too. The gear ratios for your tranny.
Gear ratios;

First; 2.48, Second; 1.48, Third; 1.00

I have learned a lot from the web site.
Hope this helps,
Dustin

First of all, thank you to everyone that has helped me with all of my
questions recently. I finally get the '66 out of storage, and now I bombard
the list with questions!
Here's the next one: I changed the gears from 3.08s to 4.88s a few years
ago, and never changed the speedo gear. The transmission places around here
say that there is a formula, but they don't know it. They want to sell me a
few gears and just do trail and error. Maybe that would be fine, because it
really doesn't have to be dead-on, but does someone know the formula?
I have a Turbo400, and am running 245/60R14s.

Thanks!
