big. 2.5 is more than enough for the motor you describe.

I was going to suggest the American Thunder kit also (I have that on my

welding on the collectors (which you'll have to do with any kit).

Second, it doesn't look like the H pipe is designed to go with the rest of
the exhaust. There may be a lot of cutting/welding to make it fit with the
rest of the system, so you might consider an exhaust that includes the H
pipe (like the Flowmaster American Thunder). You might also consider an X

Re: [Chevelle-list] 3 Exhaust on '65 Malibu SS

2004-02-22 Thread Clint Hooper
I ran a 2.5 Flowmaster catback system on my former 90 ZR-1. It dynoed at
422rwhp so that was probably close to 500 at the flywheel.
The guy I sold it to installed a 3 BB Triflo on the car. Result? It picked
up 6hp but also gained a ton of unwanted resonance that took away a lot of
the enjoyment of driving the car. I'm not sure that was a good trade-off.
Getting back to your combo,is the exhaust system you plan to run comprised
of all-mandrel bends? If not, installing a 2.5 mandrel bent system will flow
as much as a non-mandrel 3. Just something to keep in mind. However,if you
do decide to run the bigger system, may I offer a suggestion? Run full
tailpipes, preferrably in 2.5. You will see a noticeable torque increase by
doing so.
