Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
I bought the Richmond installation kit and gears. The instructions are good, but you need a dial indicator. It went well. Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
Jim, I am running US Gears in the rear in my 70. They are a little bit noisy, but that is common with those gears. If you want it to be quiet, I would go with a set of Richmond Gears. You can get them from Jeg's for less than $200. Tom

Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
Actually, the spider gears can allow both tires to rotate. If it's a positraction, both wheels will rotate in the same direction. If it's not, then one wheel will rotate clockwise, the other wheel will rotate counterclockwise. Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
Thanks but I think you misunderstood my question- I was just wondering what brand of gears people on this list prefer- ie Richmond, factory GM, etc. I don't really need any part #s right now. To tell if it's posi, jack up the back of the car so both wheels are off the ground- Spin one and see what the other one does. If it doesn't move when you're spinning yours, it's not a posi. As for the gears, you'll have to pull the cover to really know for sure. Some say you can count the # of wheel revolutions in conjunction with the # of yoke revolutions, but it's not always accurate.
