Since I kind of started this, I was not worried about Al or anyone on
the list censoring my posts. For some odd reason, I tried a few posts
and they never made it to the list. I know one time it was because I
used the wrong email account and I'm sure it was not posted for that
reason, although I never got a rejection email. The next two times I
have no idea what happened. I send about a hundred emails a day and I
know all about the Spam filters and such. I think that either there was
a glitch in the server and it missed my message, or I was just unlucky
and hit a real email loss. We never think about that, but email is not
100% perfect. I've read that as much as 1% of email is "lost" and never
delivered...

RE: [Chevelle-List] Test - Did anyone see this?

2003-02-27 Thread Al McKenzie
The list is not censored or edited. I (list admin) get the same copies
as everyone else after they are sent. If an email account was full and
bounced back the messages several times then it is removed from the list
- can't do much about a full mailbox, usually happens around holidays.
As to the second part, yes, some messages are not always reaching
hotmail accounts. I get batched return mail saying their mail server is
unavailable, out of memory or other errors. Sometimes they get delivered
a day late and other times they simply vanish. Msn accounts also have
occasional fits whereby the mail server is overloaded and sends back the
list mail, they usually resend ok the next time. We also have signups
with the www in the mail address, these, of course, do not work. Lately,
some mail systems kick out list email classifying it as spam, depending
on the content filters they use. Technically, this IS bulk email and
some ISP's ban it, just in case it might be spam. Hmmm, the fact that I
used the word spam in this email probably means that some of you will
not be receiving this as overly aggressive filters send it to the
dumpster.

Hope this explains more about how this list runs. Al

He asked some questions:

2003-01-28 Thread J. Brady
When I first got my '66 home, it had no trunk, so I
had to pull the tank to do welding back there- While
I had no tank, I was able to roll the car out in the
driveway, put a gas can under the front with rubber
fuel line in it, hook it up in place of the metal line
running up the body, and I had no problems with it
that way.

Just keep in mind that I was not moving the car, and
since it was outside I had no fume issues.

Good luck!

I've used a 1 gallon can with a 3/8" copper tube soldered at the bottom and
3/8" id flexible hose to run directly (gravity feed) to the fuel inlet at
the carb. Over the years it has hobbled me home from malfunctioning fuel
pumps and to move cars like you described.

Getting ready to pull the small block that came in my '64 when I purchased
it a few months ago.  I'm going for a BB swap and want to start
cleaning/painting/prepping the engine bay for the 396.

Before I pull it, I want to see if the motor will start.  Previous owner
claimed it would, but it had no carb, so I couldn't prove otherwise.
Besides, I knew I was going to pull it  and didn't care if it ran or not.
I've since put a 2bbl carb on that I had sitting around the garage.

Well, now I'm curious to see if it will run, and want to get some advice
from the List regarding hooking up a fuel source to the motor to feed it
some juice.  The fuel tank is out of the car and being dipped, and the fuel
line from the fuel pump to the gas tank is a rusty mess.

Can I just run a rubber line to the fuel pump inlet from a 2 gallon jerry
can to test start the motor?  How stupid would this be?

Thanks,
Kurt

I have done that befoe just to move a car. Very
flammable so you have to take care. Leave it on the floor and away from exhaust,
incase carb backfires etc. A friend of mine was burnt really bad putting fuel
down a carb with an open container. Not one of his smarter moves.

I think this idea may have some merit!
We should come up with several "Research Questions" for the young-un's & let
them find the answers & give us a report.

It's easier if you unsubscribe from this list with your current email
address and then subscribe again with the new one. I've had to do it twice
and it's quite painless.

I looked
at all of the and I think number two is it.

Larry
Ps
can I vote again?
Yep unlike the regular elections (where people may have voted twice in
Florida), it's completely legal.

Yessir, it doesfitting name for a great ride. Mine loves the highway!
They got the name for it from the "El Camino Real" which means "the royal
road". If memory serves right it's the name of one of the heaviest
travelled trails to Mexico city (or somewhere thereabouts in the days
before real roads).
