Ooh, I like! If my 2800 CFM Black Magic can't handle the task for my
Corvette, this really looks like the ticket, assuming it will fit the
'63-'67 radiator. 4600 CFM should be able to handle anything you could
install under a Chevelle hood. At 16-28 Amps, you better make sure
your alternator can handle the extra juice, and that your wallet is
ready for the $370 or so that this will cost.

Clint, if you like the way it is now, wait until I get the new Ron
Davis
radiator setup installed. In addition to the custom fabbed rad,
they're
building a totally cool shroud to mount the fans on and a matching
recovery
tank!

I have a pair of 12" Spal fans, part number 30100176, and they do a
wonderful job keeping my 454 cool. They aren't cheap at $150 or so
each.
I'm using a relay with a thermostatic switch and I also have a toggle
switch
under the dash to override the thermo switch when the A/C is running.

Well, then I'll just wait till you get your new set-up installed and buy your
old one. Either that or buy the Ron Davis set-up.
I've used their alum radiators in both my ZR-1's and they worked well.

I'm planning to replace the original fan (w clutch) with an electric ditto.
Any recommendations, any do's or don'ts?

I have dual Spal electric fans, 11" i think. They are turned on by a temp
switch at 185 degrees the car has yet to go over 190 this is with a new 502
with 300 miles on it. So far 96 is the warmest day we have driven it. They
come with relays, i have a switch on the dash to turn them off but not
manually on. I'm sure there are lots of good fans out there but these things
have suprised me with how well they work.

If you can get a
thermostat to control it, even better.  I have a Flex-a-Lite Black Magic
fan kit with the thermostat so I can make it come on at any (reasonable)
temperature I want.  If Andre's fans will work for you (since you may have
better access to them), you should still be able to use an outside thermostat
and relay (as Mikey said) to control it.  Some people like to have a switch
they control in the car so they can turn the fan on early (like if they know
they will be sitting for a while).

I guess the main thing I would say is make sure you wire it up with a relay. Funny how often I see one without.   Mikey    - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, July 07, 2003 4:00 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-List] Q: Electric fan!  I'm planning to replace the original fan (w clutch) with an electric ditto.
