One-second guys. I think maybe the 6 cylinder powerglide for that year maybe air cooled? I'm not a 100% sure but I do know 64's were and later novas were. the v-8 may create too much heat for the slip and slide glide. Just a thought?

It seems like every time I have an idea about this same thing, (swapping
for a 350)
my friend tells me to watch the places that resell wrecked cars.
He tells me, you can find a good motor from a late model Camaro,
that some idiot rolled over.
Pull the drivetrain and have the old body style and a new powerplant.
All the power you need and reliable.
What do you guys think?
This guy deals a lot with insurance companies and gets deals I can't
believe.

It is a good, workable idea if you like that kind of thing.
It has been done many times. I prefer to build the older type engine
myself, but to each his own. A newer drivetrain will provide good power
reliability at a reasonable cost.

Thanks Don, I needed a second opinion.
Is this really hard to do?
I want to keep my original Elky original, but I'd like a second one
to fix a little hotter.

Paul,
In the overall picture of things I don't think it is any harder than doing
it any other way. Chevy's are pretty easy to switch around. I'm sure there's
others on the list that have went this route could give you some detailed
info on swapping in a newer drivetrain.

If nothing else it might be worth the core charge on a fresh
rebuild. Depends if there are any "accessories" you could reuse like
intake/carb, dist, exhaust, brackets/pulleys, etc.

Firts of all, thanks for the help
with the E-Brake cable thing. Found the hole right away once I knew where to
look. HEY, stop thinking that way. HAHA OK
then. I have the opportunity to pick up a 350 engine out of an 87 blazer for
$100. The guy, ( a friend of a friend) said it ran "about a year ago", then he
picked up a new truck, and it sat outside till now.
While I realize that this motor really
isnt the best choice (cam, compression ratio, etc..),would it be worth the
time, effort, and money to use this to replace the 6 cyl currently residing in
my engine compartment? Will it mate to the Powerglide and be streetable? There
are a lot of unforseen variables, huh?
What'd y'all tink? Take it easy

You will not have any problems. You will need motor
mounts, but that is it. The motor will bolts to the powerglide with no problems
that I know about. Put a small cam in the motor and you will be surprises. I put
a 260h or a 262H Crane cams in a Truck crate motor and put it in my 71 Chevelle
and the car runs like a bad dog. It is great.

Go for it. Just be aware that its "different" One
piece rear seal - you'll need appropriate flex plate. Center bolt valve
covers ( I think). Roller Cam - maybe - but an improvement over flat
tappet. If you are rebuilding it anyway, you can get the comp
ratio/cam of your choice.

Dale,
The blazer motor is totally stock, and seems to have a throttle body unit. It also has crummy exhaust manifolds, so no dice there either. Stock HEI, Could use the alternator though. Good idea with the core charge thing though, didnt think of going that route. Thanks
