Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder
When I put disc brakes on my 66, I used the master cylinder for a 67 model. Cann't quite remember if I had any real problems using it but I worked very well when I got it all lined out it worked fine. I hate the single pot master cylinder, if you get a hole in ANY of your lines then you have NO brakes at all!! And trust me it is a funny feeling when you go to hit the brake pedal at 45 mph and it goes straight to the floor!! Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder
FORGOT to mention. When you take the old master cylinder off, compare the back (firewall side) of the new with the old.The depression where the brake push rod fits needs to be the same depth on both. If one is significantly different, you will need to return to the parts store & look for another new M/C that matches your old. For some reason, GM used 2 different size "depressions" during those years. Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder
Most LIKELY, the master cylinder was from another chevelle or similar GM car. I'd go to a good auto supply store and ask to look at master cylinders from a 68-72 chevelle or camaro. Look for one that has the bolt pattern ( I THINK ALL GM are the same) and also it must have the same size outlet fittings for the brake lines. Really should not be much of an issue. Let us know how you make out. Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder
I am sorry to interrupt but was it woirking ok before? Was it a Power assisted brake setup? (look for big doughnut behind master cylinder?) Does it have a proportioning valve? It's probably just a matter of getting a replacment with the same piston size and number of chanbers. Does that help? mike --- "Peebles, Lorne (Services)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I have disc/drum set up with large/small tanks but > how do you tell what > will be a suitable replacement for I didn't do the > conversion in the > first place. > > > > > > From: Dan Rachlin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, May 30, 2008 2:14 PM > To: The Chevelle Mailing List > Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder > > > > > Depends on wheither or not you have drum/drum or > disc/drum. Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder
I have disc/drum set up with large/small tanks but how do you tell what will be a suitable replacement for I didn't do the conversion in the first place. Depends on wheither or not you have drum/drum or disc/drum. You will either have two the same size or one bigger than the other. Replace with the same kind. Dan
Re: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder
You need a master cylinder made for your year auto. You might be able to get others to work, but they probably be more trouble to install. --- On Fri, 5/30/08, Peebles, Lorne (Services) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > From: Peebles, Lorne (Services) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [Chevelle-list] brake master cylinder > To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net > Date: Friday, May 30, 2008, 12:59 PM > I want to replace my master cylinder on my 66 Chevelle.
