Well, I started flushing out the orange stuff today. I drained the radiator
by opening the petcock and also disconnecting the lower radiator hose, then
refilled it and ran the engine until it was hot, then repeated that sequence
about three more times before what came out finally started looking pretty
much clear. It's not supposed to freeze here tonight so I'll drive it a
little tomorrow and then drain it one more time to see if it looks clear. If
it does I'll refill with water and then drain half the system (need to look
up what the total capacity is and then take half of that out) and refill w/
the green stuff.

Too bad I didn't know this sooner. I had been running straight water and
just put the orange stuff in yesterday. :(

John, The best way to mix your antifreeze is use a clean drain pan, five 
gallon bucket etc. dump in two gallons of AntiFreeze and two gallons of 
distilled water, mix it up. Then pour through a funnel into the radiator. I 
use a funnel with screen just to be safe. If you have leftover, mark one of 
your now empty jugs as premixed and use this to add later. Your Elky will 
hold most of four gallons if it is completely drained.

I've always just dumped in 2 gal of antifreeze, then fill with water  
(on a completely drained system that is).

I figure it'll get mixed up pretty well soon enough.  ;-)

Hi,
 My daily driver is a 96 Olds 88 which I bought with ''bad head gaskets''
but turned out to be a deteriorated plastic upper intake where coolant went
thru it to cool the egr vapors. After talking to my mechanic buddies I found
out the orange will attack plastic and gaskets alike and the only thing they
put back in cars they do is the green stuff.

John, The orange was formulated to GM specs and is recommended by GM for 
late model engines. It has Dex Cool which I believe is similar to water 
wetter and supposed to cool somewhat better than the green. I have been told 
not to mix them. I have been using the orange in my old cars for years 
without problems. I have not heard of or had the problems Gene mentioned, 
but I can't say that the Or. is any better or worst than standard green anti 
freeze. It mainly ended up in my cars for consistancy purposes.

Thanks Bill, I learn something new everyday.  Two of my old cars have 
copper/brass radiators, so much for being consistant. Looks like I'll be 
forced to keep both green and orange in the shop.

The orange is supposed to be 100,000 mile antifreeze  it comes in most all 
your newer cars. I have a 2000 Impala and it had the dex.cool (the  orange) 
in it and the dex cool turned to a sludgy type stuff. And also it started to 
turn the low coolant light on. I had it flushed and put the regular green 
antifreeze in it and it runs about 20 deg. cooler in the summer .The low 
coolant light has never came on since.By the way my Impala had only 40,000 
miles on it when the antifreeze looked like sludge.

98GMC 3500 with Dex Cool. $1400.00 to replace radiator, intake 
gaskets and hoses. Cause? Shop (Cousins shop)says" We get tons of Gm 
cars-trucks with factory antifreeze needing gasket and radiator replacement." 
Replacement anti freeze? It sure wasn't Dex Cool.
