Re: [ChurchillChat] Re: effigies of Churchill at Madame Tus Saud's

2016-10-22 Thread Joe Oliver
If it's any help as an incidental detail I remember reading Churchill sat
for Madame Tussaud workers to model the last waxwork of him in his lifetime
in 1956. (So that's a span of 48 years between the first and the last)

Afraid I don't have the source to hand but will post if I come across it
and it has any more information.

I'd be interested to hear what you discover if Madame Tussaud's come back
with anything helpful.

Thanks,

Joe

Dear Antoine,

I would suggest writing to Madame Tussauds in London. I think they do have an
archive.

Best wishes,

Allen

Dear All,

May I tap your expertise again ? - this time on the various effigies of
Churchill at Madame Tussaud's.

The Finest Hour site speaks of seven :

On the day of his wedding, Churchill had been honored with the distinction of
appearing as a waxwork effigy at Madame Tussaud’s. It was the first of a total
of seven effigies throughout his life.

On the Web, however, there are several quotations from a book on Madame
Tussaud’s which says there were ten :

The first sculpture of a young Winston Churchill was made in 1908, with a total
of ten made since. Pamela Pilbeam Madame Tussaud: And the History of Waxworks.

Any comments ?

With all best wishes,

A.C.
