RE: IBGP mesh and 'network' command [7:54195]

2002-09-26 Thread Abu Mwalie

I think you need the command network 10.0.0.0 only on one router which
will then advertise this network to the other routers, all other conditions
right.

This should be a good exercise for me as I have to do the Routing exam in 2
days' time!

Tommy,

I do not understand BGP very well yet, but you say:

r3 is RR-Client for r2
r2 is RR-Client for r3

Why this? I do think that you probably should not have

neighbor 1.1.1.2 route-reflector-client

in router r3 configuration!

Is this correct, to put it back to you?

Yes, you need the network 10.0.0.0 command on all the 3 BGP routers. This
network entity could, after all, be in the IP routing tables of the 3 routers.

The next-hops should be different!!

not know about route-reflection or what!

Anyway, Thanks. I will assume there is something missing, and hope that I do

Michael,

Thanks.

An amazing routing protocol, this BGP.

As time nears for the paper (640-603), the more I discover that my knowledge
here is very fuzzy!

This is probably due to limited practice. I will struggle in the paper, but
I will pull through because when the time reaches like now, my understanding

Can any one out there shed some light!! BGP selects only one path, is it
not? But that load-balancing can be achieved through static routes??

Thanks!!

EIGRP DUAL Best Path Determination [7:54300]

2002-09-26 Thread Abu Mwalie

Hi Guys,

I have two multiple choice questions, please:

Q1. When multiple successors exist to a destination, how does DUAL determine
the preferred path?

A. Largest bandwidth between source and destination; average delay.

B.Smallest bandwidth along path; add local link delay to neighbor's
advertised metric.

C. Smallest bandwidth between source and destination, cumulative delay.

D. Average bandwidth along the path; cumulative delay.

Q2. Regarding EIGRP route selection, if only default criteria are
considered, how are the values for each determined?

A. Largest bandwidth between source and destination, average delay.

B.Smallest bandwidth along path; add local link delay to neighbor's
advertised metric.

C. Smallest bandwidth between source and destination, cumulative delay

D. Average bandwidth along the path; cumulative delay

According to the source of these two questions, the correct solutions are:

Q1. D
Q2. C

Any comments??

Cheers!

Mwalie

In my part of the world, a wife can complain so much if you buy things for
your mother every now and then, or if you pay school fees for your brother,
such kind of things, even if you are doing the same to her mother and
relatives.

You reason that these people have really contributed to who you are now
through the sacrifices they have made all along. And the reason she is your
wife is, well, down to these people: my mother, my father.

I used to think that these things happen only in lesser developed societies
like mine.

Quite an eye-opener!!

BGP Route Reflector Question [7:54187]

2002-09-25 Thread Abu Mwalie

Hi All,

Please, I have this question here which I do not seem to get:

Question.

You want to configure Router A as a BGP reflector and Router B as its
client. Which three commands are necessary on Router A? (Choose three).

A. Router BGP 65000
B. Neighbor 172.16.12.1 as 65000
C. Route-reflector-client 172.16.12.1
D. Neighbor 172.16.12.1 remote-as 65000
E. Neighbor 172.16.12.2 remote-as 65000
F. Neighbor 172.16.12.1 route-reflector-client
G. Neighbor 172.16.12.2 route-reflector-client

My comment: A is correct; B and C are definitely out. How about the rest?
How do you choose which is which (D/F or E/G)??

RE: CCIE WORTH IT? [7:50941]

2002-08-08 Thread Abu Mwalie

George,

Yes, I do think it is worth it.

I only have CCNA and CCDA, but the more I get into Cisco certifications, the
more I realize what amount of knowledge one gets if his goal is to acquire
solid knowledge.

True, the needs of industry will always change as technologies change, but
these Cisco certifications build on foundational knowledge which is going to
be around for quite some time.

I mean, though i do not know much about networking, if one has CCIE, that
person has a broad knowledge base (I hope), and he can easily adapt to
changing needs in the industry.

If you are able to do this thing, please do it.

Many years back, I was studying with some guys and they got good jobs
immediately after college while I continued toiling with books a little
more. Now, even though I may never earn more than they do, I feel they envy
my position (sorry!).

When you have good knowledge, coupled with relevant experience, you will
find your niche somehow. You can even be trainer like Pricilla
Oppenheimer... there will always be diverse needs in the society.

RE: PRISCILLA OPPENHEIMER -Troubleshooting Campus [7:50524]

2002-08-02 Thread Abu Mwalie

Actually, Priscilla's book is about Designing Computer Networks, the Proper
Way NOT a Certification Guide, as she said herself. I totally agree with
her.

Why is this important? Because the CCDA exam follows some rigid procedure
which can easily get you mixed up if you mix many books! Probably, for
preparing for the exam, closely follow a Cisco Study Guide, but for a
classic way of designing networks, I think Priscilla's book is first-class.

I should know... I only buy good books and Priscilla's is one of them... it
makes good reading because it is totally self-contained... just the way I
will write when I become a world-famous author.

Juan,

You have said it quite correctly.

The very best thing is to sacrifice and have the book. It is far better to
read the book than a PDF file, but more important, the amount of work that
has gone into producing the better requires payment!

This is a costly path we are following. Ask me, I have stopped counting how
many US Dollars I have spent on books! But I still have to spend!

Jeffrey, please just buy the book I have that book, and it is great stuff.

Cisco 700- and 1000- Series Routers [7:50083]

Hi Guys,

I have downloaded the Cisco Products PDF file, and it says nothing about the

we have these routers.

What does this mean? That these two routers are no more in production? How
about for exam purposes, because I guess the exam(CCDA: 640-6441) has not
been updated?

Thanks!
