Thousands of Congrats, Chuck! --- Chuck Church wrote: All, I think the title says it all. Took the lab today at RTP. 4th time was the charm. I don't know where to begin. Might as well start with the thank you's. Thanks to Bruce, Val, and Fred at NetMasterClass. Thanks also to those on the list that I've either studied with or have helped me out in the past with problems. Thanks also to Paul for putting this great list together. As far as how I prepared, I might as well give the whole story. Started working on Cisco about 2 1/2 years ago after going though the Novell and MS Certs. After getting NA, DA, NP, and DP, I passed the CCIE written in October 2000. Without really knowing how to study or what to prepare for, I got my butt handed to me in January at RTP. Didn't know much more than your average CCNP would. Tried again in April, but BGP killed me, and again I didn't make it to day 2. After that, I found a study partner (Thanks Boris) and we worked pretty hard last summer. Did all the bootcamp labs, thought I knew everything I needed to. November 4 of 2001, figured I'd breeze through the lab. I don't know if it's true, but I heard the first couple of months with the new 1 day format had a very low pass rate. I know I could have used a couple more hours to finish. If anyone took the lab in Oct or Nov of last year and failed, don't be discouraged. I think they've scaled it back a little nowadays. Fast forwarding to today. After spending a week with Val, Bruce, and Fred at the NMC-1 course, and doing nothing but working on my speed, I felt pretty prepared. Everything in the Doyle Volume 1 and Bruce/Val's book made sense. Though running a little low on sleep, I felt good this morning. Roughly 4.5 hours into the test, we got lunch. At that point I was done with the IGP's and almost done with the EGP's. In other words about 2/3 of the way done, by my estimate. At 1:30 I was done, but needed to go back and work on 3 things I couldn't figure out. A little discussing with the proctor, and 2 of them were fixed. But then I think I read too much. I had solved a problem one way, but realized the wording of the question might change what they were looking for. Checking with the proctor, I got the impression that he really didn't like my solution. So there I am, 1.5 hours to go, and I'm making a somewhat major change :( Looked OK, but with 1/2 an hour to go, I noticed a 'neighborship' bouncing up and down :o 10 minutes to go, got it all working, but didn't get a chance to completely double check all my other work as time expired. I know I left 1 thing unconfigured (a 2 pointer), but started wondering if I'd made other mistakes. They said to expect the results tomorrow afternoon. A plane flight back to New York, and there's the email waiting. 8776! If anyone's wondering what I used to study, here's the short list: Groupstudy! Paul's done a great job. There are certain people on this list that should be flagged as must-reads. I won't mention any last names, but there are a couple guys named 'Brian' (both long-time CCIEs) that are a huge asset to this list. Thanks guys. Doyle - Volumes 1 and 2 - Everything you ever wanted to know about IP, but were afraid to ask. Bridges, Routers, and Switches for CCIEs - Bruce Caslow and Val Pavlichenko - Used edition 2, but I understand 3 is coming out soon. This book covers most everything. I expect the new edition will cover more multicast and QOS, and drop Appletalk and DECnet. But still the most useful book I've found. Halabi - Used 1st edition, but everything I was asked to do with BGP is in that book. Bootcamp labs - Worked though these with a partner, because his company was cool enough to buy them for him, and my company wasn't! Great preparation and simulation for the test. Various docs from CCO - Might as well go to the source! Most importantly - NMC-1 http://www.netmasterclass.net/nmc/ Bruce and Val explain the most difficult subjects very well. A couple of things are a little lacking in the book, but they cover those very well in the class. Be prepared to work your a** off that week though. 8:30AM to 11PM is the norm that week. But I highly recommend it, especially if you've come close to passing before. Well, sorry to ramble on so much. I'm off to bed for a L O N G sleep. Re: Regarding cisco routers [7:18368]
2509 was of worth for the old CCIE lab where u need it but now this router is been replaced with a KNOB SWITCH to get in to each router ... like the printer switch box used to swtich printer b/w PC. and for the CCNA/CCNP u really dont need to have it.. this router is good but also expensive... why waste money on that u dont want in the lab, the only benefit left with this router is eight ASYNC ports used for DDR and stuff... but this u can do it from every router that have an AUX port as AUX is an ASYNC port too. I think u should have a router with have atleast 4 serial ports so u can make that router a frame-relay switch. and in my opinoin u should buy a 2620 with 4 port serial module... by this u can have that router act as a frame-relay switch as it will have 4 serial and also can be used for inter-vlan routing b/w ur switches That will be a complete lab for CCIE level except token-ring switching and ATM. enjoy -Mamoor CCNP/CNE/MCT/MCSE/A+/NETWORK+/CCIE(writen) wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... not getting any thing from console [7:18219]
hi all , 3 of my routers are not getting anything from its consoles ... here is the detail below. Problem: Not getting any type of data from my 2501 router's console but con config from AUX. observation: 1- When I power up the router Its goes apparently normal through the booting process and after 30 sec. Light the GREEN OK light on the back of the router. 2- When I attach WAN serial cable with my 2502 router with other one (2501 2503) after some sec the data is been send through the WAN serial cable as these routers are sending keep alive packets to each other. 3- When I place a RS232 tester in between the router's console and the computer serial port it gives all the signal except the Rx signal from the router. 4- Console port is giving nothing but AUX port give a ASCII character when power ups and nothing. Solution Implemented and tested: 1- I check the router for every BAUD rate but no help. 2- I thought the routers power supply is not giving sufficient power to router, I changed it with my other router's power supply but no help. 3- I changed FLASH and DRAM but nothing happened. 4- I changed the computers console cable with the original one and changed computer too but no help. 5- I reset the routes jumper found just aside with ROM, thinking that IOS is corrupted but nothing happened. I am sure my router is not completely dead as it is giving packets through its WAN interfaces when connected to other router. Any suggestion will be a great help for me. -Mamoor Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=18219t=18219 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I hear about the MPLS training and certification. Is it right? and what recommended books for this certification?? I want to know more, learn more and read more and to reorganize my mind so that i can take right steps through. Can anybody help me? I'd be very grateful. good news and bad news for 1 day lab.... [7:13237]
Guys, There are some good news and some bad for the CCIE LAB exam . Good News : 1- the lab is changing into one day lab (not to stress on 2 day hard working) 2- the basic configuration like ip addressing and cabling are pre-installed 3- the best in all no reverse telneting (no need to practic on access server) 4- lab can now be schedul earlier 5- affective from 1 sept. 6- no need to take the written exam again if u are of old one as both the written and lab is changing 7- all the topics are unchanged so no need to look for more... only patren had changed 8- best in all the 30 marks seperate troubleshooting is not requried but will be testing on that same day th proctor will monitor u how u troubleshoot devices. 9- The knob switch will be added to the lab for shifting from one router to another for config. (very easy)... and it will cost u around $40. Bad news : 1- According to CISCO the market have only 6000 CCIE around the globle so more should be needed so i think the CCIE will be in SURPLUS after it like MCSE and CCNP as they are giving relax to this project. 2- 3900 token ring switch is added. 3- may be LS1010 will be added to the lab. 4- according to JEFF (CCIE lab Manager) the VoIP will be in the lab at anytime. 5- There are around 8000 people to go for the CCIE lab in sept till nov. so i thing there will be many CCIE .. oo Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=13237t=13237 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
