Re: IBGP multihop?

use neighbor w.x.y.z update-source loopback 0

For EBGP, you can use the ebgp-multihop command when the neighbors are not
directly-connected. I was just wondering whether there is a similar
work-around that anyone know of for IBGP.

Basically, I am using loopback interfaces on these two routers and they have
to go through another hop before hitting each other. I configured IBGP on
these two routers with those loopback addresses and found out that the BGP
 session can't be formed...

 Thanks

Re: Terminal Server for beginners

Under line 1 8, issuing a 'no exec' command should also do the trick.

I have been fighting with the performance of my terminal server for a few
weeks now. It works, and I have been using it, but like I said I have been
fighting with it. It seems to send characters to other ports when I haven't
initiated a connection to that port. The way I can tell this is when I get
onto that port it is responding to characters entered even though I haven't
entered anything. This is quite peculiar. I have looked at many books to see
if I am doing something wrong and the only indication was in Bruce Caslow's
book saying if your terminal server incorrectly shows active connections on
lines that don't have any connections established the command "modem host"
on the line config will fix this. Well this didn't fix mine for s*#@. I
finally figured out the way to fix mine was to add "modem inout" boom it
works like a charm. I am running 12.0.8 on this 2511. Maybe this is
something everyone already knew, but I didn't and maybe it will save someone
 else some pain.

 config t
 ip host r1 10.0.0.1 2001
 int loopback 0
 ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
 exit
 line 1 8
 transport input all
 modem inout
 exec-timeout 0 0

other routers assure the exec-timeout is set to 0 0 on the console.

Good News and Thanks

2001-02-13 Thread Akbar Kara

First the news, last evening, I passed :) the CCIE written
qualification exam (80/100). I am keen on getting started with
preparation for the lab exam. Fortunately, my employer has invested in
lab equipment and one of my co-worker/lab-buddy is also a CCIE hopeful.

Any advice would be appreciated. Are there web links for practice lab
scenarios?

Many thanks to all the folks on this list as I have been getting a
wealth of knowledge and insight on wide range of topics which are
discussed here. I will continue to follow and hopefully be in a
position to contribute.

Priscilla, Howard, John Neiberger and other top talkers... I admire you
guys for your knowledge and willingness to share it. Keep it up.

Cheers,

Akbar Kara

Re: Network Management Program (which???)

Check out the product at intermapper.com

This inexpensive product only runs on macOS but does a lot more than
$100K+ solutions available in the market.

Good Luck

 Hey Group,
Need some help on this one. I just came on as a contractor for this company.
The network is somewhat small. They have around 186 routers worldwide and around 22
switches that they have to worry about. So all in all, there are around 200 managed
devices for us to take care of. Currently they are using some program called "What's
Up Gold". Personally, I hate this thing. It's not secure, the features are minimal,
and I hate web based stuff. They have it set up on one machine and everyone access's
it from the web to it's IP.
The manager has expresed some interest in other methods but it will be hard to
move him away from what there is now after he gets back in a week from a business
trip. I would like to present a proposal on a new management system. My problem is
that I have only worked in Openview before. I think Openview is awesome and gives you
all the features you need and more. For this site though, I think it would be too
much. I just don't think it's really needed for the size of this network and the
management/configuration of it would overseed the network management itself.
Basically, I'm asking what you guru's out there think I should present to use.
Should it be CiscoWorks2000, Openview, or stay with What's Up Gold? I really
appreciate the help and thanks for putting up with the long post. Thanks all,

 Mark Z...
