RE: 1750 with VIC [7:14102]

2001-07-29 Thread Alfred Chin

Seems like your 1750 router is not voice capable. You need a voice/DSP
module installed. To find out if you have a voice/DSP module, 1. Open
the router. 2. There is RAM module, flash module expansion module.
Try to locate the expansion module. The expansion module allows upgrade
such as VPN module or voice/DSP module. You need a voice module
installed.

With the voice module, you will be able to install VIC-2FXS, VIC-2FXO,
or VIC-2EM. There is 2 different voice/DSP module. PVDM-4 DSP module
will support 2 voice port. PVDM-8 DSP module will support 4 voice port.

Hope this help.

I am having problems telling whether my VIC cards are working in my 1750
router. After the router powers up I see two amber LEDs that never go
out. I don't know if they are suppose to stay on or not. I issue the
show voice port command and I don't see any cards. I also try the
global configuration command voice-port and I get an error. I also
tried show voice ? and the only valid command I have is show voice
port. I believe that I show have many show voice commands available.
When I do a show version I don't see any voice modules listed. I moved
the voice card to every slot in the router, but no change. Can someone
please tell me how I can verify the cards are working correctly. /Rick

I'll agree with you on the whole "lack of happiness" thing. The more tests
I take...the less I'm happy about it when I'm done. Go figure...

I passed, but I received by FAR the lowest score of any Cisco exam I've
taken. I was worried that I might have failed it, but I squeaked through
somehow. I must agree with others who have mentioned how awful this test
is. Sheesh... These were some of the most vague questions and answers
that
I've ever seen. This is definitely a test where you need to master the
art
of answering questions the "Cisco Way (tm)."

Interestingly, I received a 0% on spotting security issues, which was
amusing. :-) I only remember about four security questions and I feel
that
I got at least two of those correct, while one of them was almost
 incomprehensible.

The SNA kicked my hiney, as well. I even have some experience with it
from
work and I supplemented that with the Sybex CID study guide and still did
not prepare nearly enough for the types of questions I was asked. I only
got 42% on the SNA section.

The rest of the test was better for me. I think the other categories were
all 75% or higher. Believe me, I was sweating big-time while the test was
being graded. I was NOT looking forward to more preparation if I had to
 take it again.

Also, there was a LOT of Windows/NetBIOS stuff. Learn it, live it, love
it.

I think that to do *really* well on this test, it's necessary to have
hands-on experience with these protocols. It would be hard to prepare
fully
 for these questions otherwise.

I've noticed something else that maybe some of you can relate to. When I
passed the CCNA test, I was absolutely ecstatic! I wanted to party all
day.
When I passed the DCN, I was very happy as well, but not quite as much as
 when I passed CCNA.

I finished up CCNP a couple of weeks ago and felt more a sense of relief
than of joy. The only reason my wife and I celebrated was that the next
day
was Valentine's day so we combined the two occasions.

Tonight, after passing CCDP, I'm not even excited at all about it. Weird,
huh? However, if I ever finish CCIE, I doubt there will be much of a lack
of excitement. Then again, maybe I'm wrong.

I think that for some of us, the joy comes in the pursuit, not the catch,
and with every cert that we finish, that's one less trophy to hunt and we
have to find something else to stay happy.

Who knows, maybe after I finish up CCIE (sometime before 2005 g) I'll
actually go back and finish up a college degree! :-)

Okay, I'm rambling. I'll go to bed now.

 John

help with 2948G-L3 switch

2000-07-28 Thread Alfred Saulo

I was hoping to get feedback on configuring a 2948g-l3 switch. I've set it
up so that the 1st port (fastethernet 1) is on my local network
(192.168.1.x) and another port (fastethernet 20) to be on another network
(192.168.5.x). I believe I have configured it correctly since I am now able
to ping from a host on the 5.x network to the 1.x network and vice versa...
however, my problem lies within being able to authenticate and eventually
log on to the 1.x network/domain (NT server, single domain) from the 5.x
network. the test machine I'm using on the 5.x network is a win98 box
with a static 5.x ip address gateway on that box is set to the ip
address of the switchport for the 5.x network. any help would be
appreciated.
