Re: CCIE Salary article

2000-12-21 Thread Austin

Yonker Bonk,

Cisco knows that they have left because the reseller notifies Cisco as to
the amount of Cisco Certified individuals they have on staff, because the
reseller discount from Ciscois determined by the number of Cisco Certified
SEs.
So when a CCIE leaves Company A for Company B, Company B submits to Cisco
that they have another CCIE ... this is how Cisco knows. The same goes for
Compaq ASEs.

Hope this explains it to you.

Re: Over the internet VPN class

2000-12-26 Thread Austin

Are you trying to have a PIX Hub configuration?
Make sure that you have an access list on the Hub that incorporates the
other 2 access lists. Also, use isakmp identity address and not host name.
And then you might want to take a look at your nat (0) statements on all 3
PIXes.

AUX Port

2001-01-02 Thread Austin

I have a Cisco 2511 Access Server.
I want to connect to the 2511 via Modem. I have an old Motorola 14.4 modem.
The aux port has the ffg config:

line aux 0
login
password cisco
modem inout
transport input all

I have the phone line plugged into the Modem (where it says TO WALL) and I
have the Parallel connector (Modem) from Cisco's console kit plugged into
the Modem Parallel Port. Then I have a regular Cisco console cable running
from the modem to the aux port.

When I call the number it just rings and rings. The modem does not answer.
What am I doing wrong or what am I not doing?
All help appreciated.

You are plain rude and uncultured. There is a better way to get your point

Frame Switch

2000-10-28 Thread Austin

I have a 2523 in my lab configured as a Frame Relay Switch.
All the serial ports are acting as DCE providing clocking to the routers.
Initially, all clock rates were set to 64000 but I changed it to 100 ...
for some reason, only serial0 and serial1 accepted the new clockrate speed f
100 ... when i tried to enter the clock rate command on the others it
says ... %Error: Unsupported clock rate for this interface .
When I do a show interfaces
the output for serial0 and serial 1 ... the second line of the output says
Hardware is HD64570 .
for all the other serial interfaces . the second line of the output says
Hardware
is CD2430 in sync mode .
The keywords being "in sync mode" ... I am guessing that this might be a
reason I cannot set the clock rate on the other serial interfaces at 100

Any ideas from anyone as to what is happening and why it is like that?

Thanks,

I am configuring 2 sub-interfaces on the router. One subinterface for the

Hope this gives you some more information and it is a Frame Relay

so on all routers it should be snmp-server host 192.168.3.1

.3.1 and .4.1 being NYC and San Jose respectively?

What do you mean by "non-technical guy"?
Everyone had to start off somewhere as nobody was born with Cisco box in

... well he had to become the climb somewhere and he knows where he wants to
be and as per Stephen Covey ...Begin with the end in mind sure you
can do it!! ... Welcome to our world!!

Ivana,

That is not correct. Passing score will be the
same, unless Cisco raises the score for everyone upon review of passing results
- which happens periodically.

Is the passing score the same on one's second

we have a T1 coming into Corp for our connection to the Internet and have
been given a Class C address by the provider ... we want to use Internet

configurations below correct?

10.1 - serial interface on router
20.2 - lan interface on router
20.3 - outside interface pix
20.4 - inside interface pix

must the default gateway on all machines point to the pix inside interface?
In addition, we have another router going to our private email server that
we need to get email from which is on a 192.168 network ...
on the internet router going to the provider and pix i have an all 0s static
route defined to serial0 should i plug in the router going to the
192.168 network into serial1 and say ip route 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0
serial1 ? eigrp is the protocol running on the 192.168 network
i am researching this today on CCO ... but all help will be appreciated on

PIX Help

2000-11-09 Thread Austin

I am using a static mapping on the pix for an inside illegal address to an
outside legal address.
I want to allow the inside machine to be pinged from the outside as well as
allow http traffic to that machine.
Lets say the inside address is 10.1.1.5 and the internet legal address is
45.33.20.5
This is what I did:

static (inside, outside) 45.33.20.5 10.1.1.5
conduit permit icmp host 45.33.20.5 any
conduit permit tcp host 45.33.20.5 eq www any

I cannot ping the inside machine from the internet with this config.
Please help.

Re: Off Topic - Apologies for my HEATED RESPONSE

2000-11-18 Thread Austin

Chuck,

This is a great gesture from you. My post is not directed to you at all. It
is a general post.
I am of the notion that none of us have any right whatsoever to go off on
another.
If one cannot answer the question, do not reply.
If one is miserable or upset or cannot handle the pressure of training for
the CCIE, take five, think about what you are doing, because guess what, the
real life pressure in Network down situations can be much worse ... is it at
this point that you will be snapping at your colleagues?
Just because you are frustrated and tired of training, does not mean the
next person is.
So, to Mr. Pun that asked the question, contact your CCIE Lab Proctor, or
Cisco Channel SE with your questions, and you also might want to check out:
http://www.ccbootcamp.com/ccielab.htm
Hope this answers your questions Mr. Pun and good luck on your journey
towards the coveted CCIE!!!

Locked Console`

I have a Cisco 2511 and the console has locked all of a sudden.
I get output from the boot sequence, but after it gives me the memory stats,
nothing.
It does not respond to hitting the enter key ... nothing.
Any thoughts on this??

How do you fix that problem if it is your access server and only the

enter a break sequence ... change the register settings and then you can

Re: Printing Boson Tests

2001-01-04 Thread Austin Troxell

It's a little kludgy, but...

What I used to do to get a printout of all the Boson questions/answers to
take with me on the road was to open a blank Word document, start the =
Boson
test, then highlight the complete answer info (click/drag), right-click,
select "Copy" to copy the highlighted text, then ALT-Tab to my Word doc =
and
CTRL-V to paste the text.

Kinda awkward, but hey, it worked, it was free and I didn't have to schlep =
a
laptop into the hotel just to review.

RE: CiscoWorks2000

2001-01-15 Thread Steve Austin

Rik,
CiscoWorks 2000 is slow. We used CiscoWorks RWAN on a Compaq DL380 (733Mhz
processor, RAID5, 768 MB RAM) for a client. We did NOT use MS SQL, just used
the Microsoft jet database for indexing.

(1) Heed the software versions in the documentation.
(2) Configure an administration console on a workstation (it's in the docs).
This will significantly offload some processing to the client --
client-server model, eh?
(3) I'd recommend 1 Gig of RAM.
(4) Maybe use SQL vs. jet database for indexing.
(5) Download the patches and updates from CCO. You did sell them Smartnet,
right?
(6) Use RME.

Regards,
Steve

Help with Internet connection [7:17024]

2001-08-23 Thread Austin Calvin

Hello All:
Can someone help me? I'm tring to put up a fail-over internet
connection. Using a cisco 1720 with a adsl interface and an dlink gateway
router for cable. Now what I'm tring to do is route though the Adsl
interface on the router for the internet, and if that interface go's down
have the cable modmem pick up the traffic.

It may sound crazy but it's a small company that needs internet up on a 24
hr basis.

Thanks for any Help

Re: Help with Internet connection [7:17024]

2001-08-23 Thread Austin Calvin

Patick;
Thanks for the help. But the problem with the floating route is that
when dsl gos down the interface appears the be up so the route thinks
everthing is fine. It will not route to the cable side. Was thinking of
using Rip, but have no exp and don't know if this will be fault tolerant.

Thanks
