RTP BUG ? 12.1(5)YB4 [7:23661]
Dear All, I am using 12.1(5)YB4 realease of Cisco IOS on 1700 platform. I am running VoIP over the Internet using 64K PPP leased line from my internet service provider. interface FastEthernet0/0 ip address xx.xx.xx.xx 255.255.255.240 no ip route-cache no ip mroute-cache speed auto full-duplex ! interface Serial1/0 bandwidth 64 ip address xx.xx.xx.xx 255.255.255.252 no ip route-cache no ip mroute-cache ip rtp header-compression ip rtp priority 16384 16383 40 ! Above is extract from my config. Now I want to enable the rtp header compression but the problem is that when I enable the it I do not hear anything. Calls get placed but voice packets are not being sent. Is this a BUG with the IOS. Since RTP is layer 4 protocol if I am not wrong so I think my ISP do not need to do anything . My both end to end routers have similar config and have rtp compression enabled. Can you please advice me over this. Someone adviced me that the similar bug was there in the IOS 12.1.5(T). So might be IOS what I am using is having the same bug. Re: Disable Telnet [7:23388]
thanks !! this will be really useful. Mukul BM wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... You can restrict access to your router via telnet. Create an access-list and permit the specific addresses you want to be able to access the router. Apply it to the vty ports as an access-class in. Here's an example: access-list 1 permit 10.1.1.1 0.0.0.0 line vty 0 4 access-class 1 in This will all only 10.1.1.1 to telnet into the router. If you were to apply it outbound, it would restrict outbound telnet sessions to that address only. So, you could only telnet to 10.1.1.1 from this router. If you want to block all access to it: line vty 0 4 login no password When someone tries to telnet in, they get 'password required, but none set'. Hope this helps. -- Brian Morgan CCIE# 4865 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Chamak wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... can I diable the Telnet on my router or can I restrict IP that can telnet to the router ? Re: VoIP Installation Issue [7:23254]
What a silly thing I was doing I gave enable IP routing and it started working. Mukul Mark Odette II wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Chamak, I interpret that you have the following: 2 1751's with (1)2FXS VIC and (1)2FXO VIC in each of this 1751's. You say that you can Pick up a standard POTS phone (analogue handset) that is plugged into port 1 of the first 1751's FXS VIC and dial your dial-plan to port 2 of same FXS VIC on same router. You say you can also do the same thing plugging a standard POTS (analogue phone) line into either port of the FXO VIC on the same 1751, and dial an outside line. Connecting the two 1751's up to a hub/switch or even a cross-over cable between the two 10/100 interfaces and creating dial-peers between the two routers, and then dialing from FXS port on R1 to R2 FXS port yields invalid results. The next step to do is perform all the dial tests for the second router that you did with the first (calling from port 1 FXS to Port 2 FXS, Port 1 or 2 of FXS to Port 1 or 2 of FXO on same router). If you get the same exact results as the first router, then verify the same version of IOS is running on both Routers. Aside from that, I'd call Cisco TAC. Creating the Dial-Peers for VoIP are pretty straight forward, and you have many examples on the Cisco web site to choose from. The basic dial-peer config is only 2 lines, 3 at max if you modify the default codec. This assumes you are dialing from router A to Router B over the 10/100BT network interface and the two routers are on the same Hub/Switch and the routers are on the same subnet for simplicity of testing. I hope this is of some help. -Mark Odette II StellarConnection Services -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Chamak Sent: Wednesday, October 17, 2001 5:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: VoIP Installation Issue [7:23254] Thanks Marc, But I have got these router just 3 days back. Can you advice how can we make sure that it's VIC problem and not the config. Mukul Mark Odette II wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Chamak- I can't recall the Cisco Bugtrak ID, but what you describe sounds verry familiar to a problem they posted about the Voice WIC being defective. You might see about calling Cisco TAC for support. If you bought the router less than a year ago, you might get your Voice WIC replaced under warranty. HTHs! My Scenario for test is Phone ROUTER1 LAN=ROUTER2Phone I do not have WAN interfaces, just to try I am using the Lan port. LAN port on router 1 = 192.168.1.100 LAN port on Router 2 = 192.168.1.200 As for now. 1. I am able to place call on the same ports of router ( ex., Port 1/0 and 1/1 of FXS) 2. Also I am able to use PSTN line on the same router that is Call from Port 1/0 (FXS) to Port 2/0 (FXO). but, When I configured both the routers and created VoIP dial-peers. When I dial from the phone on router1 I cannot hear the progress tone, but the phone on router2 rings. Moreover when phone on router 2 is picked up I cannot see any significant activity on the etherner interface and No Voice comes. Surprisingly, If the Phone2 is busy then I get the busy tone., Can you please help me setting the above scenario. I am looking forward to hear from you all ! Re: Passed BSCN and a question about CCIE written [7:21815]
Congrats RB Jsn Eggert Gupmundsson wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... I finally passed the routing exam on Monday. I used the following books: 1) Routing TCP/IP by Doyle. An excellent book about internal routing protocols like OSPF,EIGRP,RIP and redistribution. 2) Internet routing architectures by Halabi. A good book about BGP. 3) CCNP routing Exam certification guide by Cisco Press. An excellent book for the BSCN exam. 4) Building Scalable Cisco Networks by Paquet. I personally found the exam certification guide better 5) Routing certification guide and exam notes by Sybex. It is good to read the last week before the exam. It do not go into details. 6) Routing exam cram. It is totally waste of money.I personally like the examcram books and I have used it a lot for the cisco exams but this book is not good. 7) IP routing fundamentals. Cisco press. It is about routing protocols in general and is good for getting fundamental knowledge but not specially for the exam. 8) OSPF network design solutions by Thomas M Thomas, cisco Press. It is better for deeper knowledge of OSPF. 9) OSPF Anatomy of an internet routing protocol. Moy (He designed the OSPF protocol) it is excellent book about ospf and I will read it again for the CCIE R/S written 10) BGP4 Internet domain routing in the internet by Stewart. I need to read that book a few more times to compleatly understand it. I took the boson test 2 and 3 and the questions were of the same difficulty as the actual exam. I work as a WAN administrator at the Icelandic Banks Data Senter and have about 4 years experience with cisco routers so configuring ospf and simple BGP is not new to me. Yet I found the exam difficult so do not underestimate it. I will now continue studying for the CCIE R/S written exam and I am looking for buying a few books for it. On this list many people have read and recommended books by Caslow. I looked his name up on www.amazon.com and found that he has written many books about cisco. What book(s) by him did you read for the CCIE? Can you give me the ISBN number please. This list have helped me immensely and thank you all for keeping this list going.
