Re: HP OpenView and CISCO

2000-10-23 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

Thanks for your answers

1) I asked for one of my friends who has an old version (HPOpenView with 100
nodes- it is a Window 9x version) I know that the name of the new product is
HPNNM and there are no problems with these routers. We tested it on demo
version from HP Site.
2) The routers have no HSRP.
3) The problem also appears also for other kind of nodes (passive nodes)

Waiting for new suggestions
Cristian Piatnitchi

HP OpenView and CISCO

2000-10-23 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

I am working with HP Openview (not HP NNM). I don't understand why my
routers (they haven't been discovered by HPOV) are still blue. I put these
routers manually on my map, I set up pooling interval properly but they are
still blue (the color of their icons) instead of being green red or yellow.
They respond at ping or SNMP queries but no status information (usually blue
color means no info in HP OV)

Any idea?
Thanks in advance

RE: 2 line: the best solution ?

2000-10-18 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

First,thanks for your help.

I have studied the CISCO docs but no results

These are the two routing lines for my routers

ip route 10.2.44.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.39.98 90
ip route 10.2.44.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.38.98 100

It worth saying that the backup line is always up.It caries voice also.
Does the backup config work even for frame relay links (one of my serials
could be a FR link)
1) I want to ask you if the routes should have the same cost ?
2) Shall I configure the router from the other end with backup config too ?
3) How does it work this configs ? I don't understand if both links will
work in the same time when the first one reaches the level specified in:

backup load 70 50

70 means that the second line is activated at 70% of the main line
50 means that the second line is deactivated at 50% of the main line

Thans in advance for help
Please see below for scheme

2 line: the best solution ?

2000-10-18 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

I have 2 leased line (64kb) one of them working with voice and data and the
other one just with data. 2 Cisco routers. I want to set-up these lines to
work toghether. Which one is the best solution:

router - router
| |
\-->Multiplexor--Multiplexor

2 serial lines and bandwidth (aggregation or no)

2000-10-16 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

I want to setup my router (let say a CISCO 26xx) to use its two serial lines
like this:

-usually the traffic goes trough the first serial line
-when the first line is flooded the necessary (additional) bandwidth should
be from the second serial line

Please advice me:

What should I study and setup on my router ? Queuing ? Load balancing ? Can
anybody send me a sample config ?

Thanks in advance

Catalyst 5005: unexpected behaviour

2000-08-31 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Catalyst 5005: unexpected behaviour

It refused to accept any Telnet connections! It refused to answer to ping !
But it continued to perform its functions: switching, vlans, etc. After a
reboot it started answering at ping, accepted telnet connections but it
didn't accepted any snmp request!
CISCO View show me that the device is inactive.
After one day CISCO View displayed just Supervisor Engine as beeing active
but snmp timeouts were received again for the whole day.
After an other day all modules are active and the device answers at snmp
request !

I can't understand this ! Can anybody advice me about how to debug, and to
prevent this kind of event for the future ?

Thanks in advance

RAS,IPs and PIX (security issues)

2000-08-23 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

Let's think about this:

You have a router with a few dial-up access cards (modems). These modems
have allocated a pool of addresses from your internal network. These
addresses are translated trough a PIX for Internet access. There are no
restrictions for dial-up access, the lines are available all the day long.
How would you prevet the internal users(no dial-up users) to change their
IP addresses and to access the Internet in this way. The users know the IPs
because they access these lines in the evening from home. The OS for wkst.
is Win98 so we can't do anything on the users' workstations.

The problem should be solved using PIX or oter router. The desired result
should be: enabling the internet access for these addresses just for the
evening hours with to disable the access trough the RAS for internel
resources.

Thanks for any comments or sugestions
Cristian
