Re: Access server configuration [7:2376]
You need to clear the line. Do a show line on the 2509. Anything that you have not started a session with that has a splat next to it needs a clear line. You should be able to do a ctrl-shift-6 x at that point to get back to the 2509 and then over to the next router. Your configuration is correct. Earl Aboytes, CCIE 6097 Ed Dombrowski wrote: Can anybody post some working configs for a 2509 or 2511. I am going nuts trying to configure a 2509 i just got. I cant seem to find any other info on the cisco site relating to just setting this thing up plugged into the console ports of my other routers. Currentl;y i have it working on one router (the 1601) but i cant get a second one to work (2521). I cant tell what the difference is at this point. I will post my running configs if anybody can offer some tips. The configs are a bit messy on some of them as these are lab routers and i am studying for my BSCN exam. I posted this to the other 2 cisco newsgroups yesterday but i think my news server sucks. I still dont see my posts 15 hours later Also, the 1601 router when i try to connect gives the message connection refused by remote host but if i hit enter again it connects. The 2521 just gives me the same message but wont connect at all. I would really appreciate any help. I just cant find any info that is useful anywhere. I even drove to the bookstore and looked through about 15 books but didnt find anything more specific then the page i refrenced above. 2509#show run Building configuration... Re: OFF TOPIC -Job Offer without Interview?? [7:2375]
Freddie-MAC is probably who he has a contract with. This guys sounds too desperate. I would avoid this situation. Don't take a job unless you feel comfortable. Interviews for IT candidates are not to see whether or not they like you, its to see whether or not you like them. Right now you have no idea. Last nite -- Friday 4/27 at about 8:00 p.m., he calls again -- asks only if I'm available -- and then says I can report to work on Tuesday 5/1. Again, no technical questions -- simply confirmed my salary requirements -- and simply wanted me to FAX a copy of my certs to him. Nothing else. Then I slowed him down. Asked about benefits, including training, etc. and then asked about the job Turns out he has a contract with a Freddie-something? Agency and needs a NP/DP as he put it (CCNP/CCDP) to show up on Tuesday for about 3 mos. Althought he assured me that I would be a PERMANENT employee and he had other projects to put me on after this job was complete. When I pushed questions about the benefits, he offered to have his benefits person call me Monday -- until I suggested that I come to his company offices Monday to SEE his site. Now I have to decide whether this is really a suitable position to want to put on my resume, and whether it's really legit. I have serious doubts about someone who would hire an employee over the phone, sight unseen (I could be picking my toes, drinking beer, a fat old redneck! -- I'm not!). If he's willing to hire in such a fashion -- isn't he doing a disservice to his client -- and won't he be just as likely to fire me -- on a whim. Is this a safe job -- am I really going to get paid? What do I say to the client if asked?? I''ve got very bad vibes about this -- but I don't know if my suspicions are justified!!! All replies will be appreciated! I have heard from more than one person that Caslow's book is great for the written exam. Take a look at it if you don't already have it. I studied from Giles but that is too much material. Re: Sh ip route rip command
Even though Rip does not send the mask in the routing update it must assume some sort of mask. Why did it assume a 255.255.255.0 when the default is 255.255.0.0 for a class B network such as 172.16.0.0? The answer is that RIP looks to see if the 172.16.0.0 network is present on the router. If it is, it assumes that the mask of the network being advertised to it must have the same mask. The router that you are doing a sho ip route on must have the 172.16.0.0 network on it somewhere with a 255.255.255.0 mask. Re: Newbe -- Subnet mask question
The 192 comes from the admin. If you were the admin of a network, and maybe you are, you would probably get a full class 'C' (255.255.255.0) from your ISP or maybe ARIN. You would decide how you want to divide that network. If you wanted to divide it into two parts you would extend your mask by one bit or 255.255.255.128. If you wanted to divide it into four parts you would exetend it to 255.255.255.192. You supplied the .192. The 255.255.255.0 you get from ARIN. You make the decision if you want to change it and how much. Lamle is pulling the .192 out of the air and giving it to you for example purposes. Earl Aboytes Senior Technical Consultant GTE Managed Solutions Dick Silva wrote: Group -- Some enlightenment is appreciated. The following two examples are directly from Todd Lammle's CCNA book, 2nd edition. I understand that 192 = 1100 And I understand that there are 2 subnets and 62 hosts and how to calculate both of these values. I would just like to know where the 192 comes from and some explanation of its purpose. 2nd example: Given the same network address: 192.168.10.0 Given the subnet mask: 255.255.255.224 So where does the 224 come from? I understand that 224 = 1110 And that there are 6 subnets and 30 hosts. Again where does the value 224 come from and its purpose. What determines the selection of these two, 192 and 224, values or any of the others that are plugged in. I am not talking about the 255 values. Those I understand,.
