Hi List,

I erased a file from the flash memory of a 3640 but I still can see it's
name on the flash marked as "deleted":

System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
  1 5421492 c3640-io3-mz.121-4.bin
  2 3469688 c3640-sy-mz.120-5.T1.bin [deleted]

How can I completely remove it from flash??

Thanks,

RE: Comments in Config Scripts [7:18839]

It is my understanding that you TFTP down your existing config. Make the
necessary changes to include the comments then TFTP it back to the router.

RE: Can you filter a subnet on a sniffer pro? [7:18168]

Unfortunately, you have to use pattern matching and enter the hex values for
the octets you are looking for. I don't have my cheat sheet handy otherwise
I would give a specific example.

Subject: Can you filter a subnet on a sniffer pro? [7:18168]

Hi guys,
I'm using sniffer pro 3.0 on NT platform. I am able to filter a single
host or any host. But I cannot filter a subnet, for example,
10.10.10.0/24. I have tried entering in all sort of combination such as:

10.10.10.*
10.10.10.*.*
10.10.10.0/24
10.10.10.0 /24
10.10.10.0/255.255.255.0
10.10.10.0 /255.255.255.0
10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0
10.10.10.any
10.10.10.
10.10.10.0

What am I missing? Or maybe this sniffer software doesn't support a
subnet filtering? If that's the case, then it's rediculous. Because it
does support 'any' which is everything.

Thanks for any input.

-Frank

RE: Reseting Supervisor Engine and/or MSFC [7:18138]

2001-08-31 Thread Ed Seward

Thomas,
The CAT OS and the IOS on the MSFC's can be upgraded independently in the
6500s. You can reset just the MSFC. I log into the MSFC and enter the
'reset' command while in enable mode. This resets just the MSFC and thus
reduces the down time.

Hi All,

My 6509 has dual Supervisor Engines and dual MSFC cards. It runs in Hyrid
mode. I plan to upgrade the IOS of the MSFC cards only, NOT the Supervisor
Engines. I wonder:

1. Is IOS version of MSFC dependent on the CATOS version of Supervisor
Engine?
2. When I reset after the upgrade, do I have to reset the whole module
(Supervisor Engine + MSFC) or just the MSFC? If I cannot reset only the
MSFC, in what mode should I issue the reset command? CATOS or IOS in this
case (IOS is in session 15 or 16)? Will this reset both the Supervisor and
the MSFC?
3. Should I not losing the configuration which I assumed they're saved in
NVRAM of the MSFC or Sup. Engine?

Again, Thanks much to All!!!

Thomas N.

RE: Catalyst Q. [7:18036]

2001-08-31 Thread Ed Seward

We implemented a separate management VLAN and the SUP card is on that while
its connection upstream trunks the management VLAN and the VLAN used by the
other modules in the CAT.

We then use two dual-homed Linux boxes (backup in case one fails) to gain
access to the management VLAN. The firewall on the Linux box both protects
the management VLAN and limits access to the Linux hosts. Since we have the
Linux systems for that, we take advantage of having them and use one of them
as a syslog server.

Another method would be to put the systems needing telnet access on the
management VLAN.

RE: Cisco Secure !!!!!

2000-06-07 Thread Ed . Seward

One does not need a database product to run CiscoSecure. Although, one does
have an option to use one with CiscoSecure. It makes for a nice way to use
an AS5x00 with an established NT environment as one can use an NT domain for
validating.

Well, it really depends on what you want to do. I haven't had a chance
to play around with CiscoSecure yet, but it apparently requires an
Oracle or Sybase installation to maintain RADIUS, TACACS+, and other
information. It's designed for large environments with many thousands
of entries. If you just need a simple TACACS+ or RADIUS server for a
hundred accounts or so, there are plenty of free platforms out there.
Just search around.

Of course it isn't free but the Cisco book Cisco Lan Switching by Kennedy
Clark and Kevin Hamilton does a nice job on explaining Spantree. The book
is actually very readable as well as a good reference.

There is also a telnet server in the NT4 Server Resource Kit.

Hi

Well depends if you are talking about NT acting as a telnet client or telnet
server...

The TCP/IP stack in NT has a built-in telnet client, just type telnet from a
command prompt.

There is no native telnet server in NT 4.0, however if you go to
32bit.bhs.com or www.winfiles.com and search for telnet, you will find
several thrid party telnet servers for NT 4.

If you have Win2K there is a telnet server built-in.

I have users dial up to an AS5300 then to company

tried to connect exchange server(using Outlook). Other
network program works fine. Users on LAN do not have
any problems. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
