Re: Routing Protocol Load-Sharing

2000-07-26 Thread Geert Hampe

Hi Evan,

Ospf is like 6 equal cost paths and EIGRP is like 4 equal or unequal cost
paths. EIGRP is more flexible to have unequal load balancing.

Re: Router MAC address

2000-07-26 Thread Geert Hampe

Hi,

A serial interface doesn't have a MAC address. The router is taking on off
the lan-interfaces if you do for instance ipx routing and the router needs
one.

Re: CCIE Written R/S?

2000-07-30 Thread Geert Hampe

Hi,

Since you are taken the same road as I did, I can tell you the following :
The CCIE written is a "pain" in that sense that you can't "just" take the
book and study it because there is none. So you have to find your own
student stuff : the CCNP courses of course, Halabi's book for BGP, The
white paper on Token Ring on CCprep, ... Before I took the written I first
passed my CVOICE and CATM test (you have to know them anyway for the test so
why don't you do the certification was my idea ???). I passed first blow
with 76% (not skyhigh but passing nevertheless). They ask also questions
about "remote" subjects : 100vganylan, X25, FDDI

Hope this helps you out ...

Re: flash mem

2000-08-01 Thread Geert Hampe

Hello,

Apparantly you're doing this on a 2500 when you're saying Read only. It
happens to be that a 2500 runs it's IOS partially from Flash, So if you're
booted from flash you'll see read-only, if you're booted from Rom-monitor
mode : config-register 0x2101 or 0x2100 you'll see read-write. Great if you
want to upgrade the damm thing.

Re: PAP

When you need to have more security : remember PAP send clear text passwords
but CHAP encrypts the password and performs a challenge mechanism. PAP uses
straightforward ask and answer routine.

Re: Traffic shaping

2000-08-01 Thread Geert Hampe

Traffic Shaping is mostly used in PVC-environments like FR and ATM. You can
have a lot of problems with it. The actual syntax is to vast to discuss
here but you can find excellent examples on CCO.

Syncro

2000-08-07 Thread Geert Hampe

Hi Yah,

I'm working for Conexion in Europe : we supply transit IP service and "just"
bandwidth as well. Most of our connections are NO SYNC because we use Route
Reflector or confedarations to get lost of the full-mesh approach in BGP.
So if you have a "healthy" provider he's going to built his structure that
intelligent that you don't need the synchronisation.

Re: multiple routes

2000-08-09 Thread Geert Hampe

Hi yah,

Some questions :
You have multiple links : to one provider, to multiple providers, to a
provider and a transit-as
What are you learning from the BGP-peer : default route, the ISP AS's routes
or all ???
If you use a static to one provider and BGP to the other that means that you
want to reach the same network over different paths?? (Load balancing or
Redundancy ??)

Thanks
