Best ATM book

2000-09-19 Thread Glenn Flood

Can anyone recommend
a good book for learning ATM. I would like something with a lot of simple lab
setups and examples. Has anyone used the 3 volume set "ATM Reference Library"
recommended by Cisco? Isn't there a book that will give me enough detail to get
my CCIE without reading 3 volumes?

2002-01-05 Thread Glenn Flood

Hi all,

I haven't touched a router or switch in about 6 months and was wondering if
someone had a lab setup on line that I could log into for a few hours so
that I could brush up on my skills again.

Please respond to the email below if you don't want to share it with the
entire group.

Thanks,

CIT next week

2000-07-18 Thread Glenn Flood

All,

I am taking CIT next
week and need some advice from people that have taken this exam recently. Are
there any fill-in-the-blanks like on ACRC? I am having a lot of trouble the
Boson "packet trace" questions. Are the many of these type on the test? Are
there a lot of IPX and AppleTalk questions? token Ring? Is there a main area of
troubleshooting that is focused on?

You have to do an Xmodem upload through the
console port. This should give you some more info on it:

RE: Technical Question

2000-07-20 Thread Glenn Flood

My $.02

I currently have four NIC cards installed in a computer running NT 4.0
Server. 1 - Token ring, 1 - 10/100 Ethernet, 1 - FDDI DAS and 1 - ATM
adapter. It can be done without too much difficulty, just have be careful
that each one is on a different interrupt.

Hi Bruce,

Yes. It is possible to configure 2 NICs in the same PC. You can also
multinet (assign both IPs to the same NIC without adding another physical
NIC). Keep in mind though, that NetBIOS will only bind to one of these
logical interfaces. From the description of what services you are accessing,
this does not seem to be an issue. You will also need to set up some static
routes on the NT box, to ensure that the proper paths are taken. This may be
the cleanest solution. I have done this type of scenario over NT, but have
not tried to do this over 95/98, although I do believe it's possible.

I can also think of a more sophisticated way in which this could be handled,
although it is probably a little over the top.
A) Configure the client with an address within your assigned network (subnet
of your router).
B) Multinet your router (to also contain an IP within AT&Ts assigned range).

C) configure a static route on your router to allow a path to the Notes
server, via the AT&T router.
D) Configure address translation on your router to translate your address to
an address within the AT&T assigned range, such as the address you multinet
to the router's interface.

Good Luck and Have FUN!

Also, are there "fill-in-the-blank" type questions etc. How much BGP do you have

Microsoft SMS (Systems Management Server) 2.0.

It will also distribute software updates, software metering and tons more.

What do I need for ATM

2000-06-14 Thread Glenn Flood

Hey,

I am trying to get
my hardware together for an ATM lab and am a little unsure as to what equipment
I will need to be best prepared for the CCIE lab.

I have a Cat5000
with Sup II a 4500 and couple of 4000 series routers. I know that I will need an
interface for 4500 and also for the Cat5000. Currently there is a WS-X5158 blade
on eBay and do not know if this will do what I need or not.

Do I need a
Lightstream 1010?

Please
advise.
Thanks, Glenn

RE: connect routers together with Token ring interface

2000-06-16 Thread Glenn Flood

Daniel,

Yes, you need what is called a MAU or Multistation Access Unit.

I have two on eBay that I am selling. They are both IBM 8228's and are in
perfect condition.

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=357452542

You will also need some cables to connect it all together. Sorry, but I am
still using all mine. But, if you do a search on eBay under the networking
category for "Token Ring", you will find everything else that you need. You
might also want to consider getting a couple of TR NIC cards so that you can
put a few PC's on the ring.

Hope this helps.

This is for anyone that has taken any of the CCNP classes from an authorized
Cisco trainer.

I found out yesterday that I get $2K per calender year to train. I want to
use this for a Cisco class. My question is this: what test and/or class is
the most difficult, or what class of the CCNP track should I take that I
will get the most benefit from in a formal setting. I passed the CCNA on
self study and am pretty comfortable w/router setup, etc.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
