Re: Questions from a new CCNA (repost)

2000-06-19 Thread M Z

2 questions are in this listing

1) does anyone have a paper or link that gives a meaningful explanation of
the processes that are running in a router when you type the sho processes
command

2)what is the most ideal way to pinpoint a process that is eating up CPU
time, and make sure it has more cpu time that what is usually allocated to
it

Thanks in advance.

Frame relay question

2000-06-19 Thread M Z

Usually if a router is at a customers site, it is set as a DTE, the carrier
is set as a DCE (provide clock), when do you want to set the router as an
NNI?

Thanks

re: OSPF !!!

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

You are the OSPF king, charles :)
Load balancing with ospf happens automatically, assuming the two interfaces
have the same cost.
The fact that they are load balancing per packet or per destination depends
on the switching mechanism on the router.

Last note, if you want a router not to be a DR , set the priority to zero, I
believe the default is one, the decision if both routers have the same
priority will go the router with the highest IP (router ID) address, this is
another good reason to use loopbacks with OSPF.

Re: PIX labs?

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

I would suggest the following scenarios.

1) Configuring DMZ's and securing the local network (3 interfaces)
2) Configuring more that 3 interfaces and make sure specific traffic can
pass between interfaces on deferent priority levels (that can get tricky)
3) Terminating VPN sessions to the PIX from a) a router b) another PIX c) a
VPN client.

I guess the way you implement all that would again depend on your
imagination.

Re: Frame Relay switch

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

Thanks Atef and Nigel for your responses,
the two other questions I have are
1)how do you make the switch auto-sense the LMI type, or is that a function
of the router?
2)in the command frame-relay route 100 interface serial 2 200
are the 100 , 200 refer to the DLCI's and that is the command I need to map
a PVC between DLCI 100 and DLCI 200.

Thanks so much.
