I need proof -- date of birth, place of birth, whether you are left-or
right-handed or ambidextrous, etc. Without that -- I still claim the title.
In fact, I am taking on the Republicans spin in Florida on this. My age has
been broadcast over this list for months and no one "successfully" came
forth and refuted my claim to the title. Thus, there has been an age
count, and an age recount and even a recount on the age recount -- and there
has not been anyone who can prove BRD (lawyers shorthand for Beyond a
Reasonable
Doubt!) that I am not the duly "self-appointed" and "self-anointed" oldest
(albeit I concede not the wisest) CCNP/CCDP on this earth!!

If necessary, I will call upon Ms. Katherine Harris (from Florida) to
mediate this issue!!!

See, we old folks have nothing on our plates so we can engage in this
nonsensical, time-wasting behavior (at least while I'm having my first
cuppa' tea this a.m. Then its on to work!!!

CCprep.com Lab time [7:12453]

2001-07-15 Thread Preston Kilburn

All, I have a question for you, have any of you rented a lab from
CCprep.com? I was wondering if it was worth the $45 or so an hour. Also,
are there any other places to connect up with a lab to tinker with??

Thanks! I have actually sent an email to the editor of the Cisco book
series from Osbourne. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use their books any
more.

BCMSN scenario question [7:11454]

2001-07-09 Thread Preston Kilburn

All,
I had a question in my BCMSN book that is puzzling me, basically there
was a scenario of a company that had two 4-story buildings on one network
with two routers and 8 hubs running over a t1. They wanted a ds3 and vlan
capability for each different floor. They also mentioned that the IT/IS
deparment was on floor number one of the buildings and that they needed to
access all different vlans, servers, etc (I have a reason for this I
promise! :]). The question asked for the network admin to design a network
diagram for this company.
My question is that I figured out ATM switches and vlan capable
management switches on each floor, but the thing that threw me off was their
lack of a management switch on the first floor. So, my question is this:
Should one have a management switch for your servers and IT people, or
should they be hooked into the core switch?

RE: CCO questions [7:11275]

As far as the CCO "Get Login" question, to review the requirements or get
forms, you have to login to CCO! Then, to add insult to injury when I just
shrugged and said forget it and clicked the "get login" button, the
javascript flatlines! Oh well.

I would say get the graduate degree. I have almost MCSE and CCNA and it
hasn't helped my job search any. If you can go to school pretty much
non-stop (that's probably what it'll take for your grad in 20 mos.) then go
for it. Besides, honestly if you can spare $3-4k, you can go to bootcamps
back to back and get your MCSE and CCNA.

RE: csu-dsu [7:11233]

I would check your timing first. If you are getting the T1 from a reliable
telecomm company, use the line's timing. If from somewhere else, set the
timing to internal.

BCMSN Exam questions [7:11098]

Does anyone have a good study list for BCMSN (Switching 2.0) exam? I'm
currently studying from Osbourne and have been told (albeit by someone not a
CCNP) that Osbourne books aren't enough to study from. Any suggestions?

RE: Communication between two subnets [7:10971]

2001-07-05 Thread Preston Kilburn

This is a WINS issue. I had a similar experience at my last job, with two
servers having the same windows name. Check out the WINS properties (you'll
have to look them up as I don't remember them offhand), and see if you get
the error "uniqueID". This may be to root of your problem. It could also
be that WINS is not resolving accross your link, and you'd need to set up
another server.

RE: ppp &hdlc [7:10737]

2001-07-02 Thread Preston Kilburn

One difference between PPP and HDLC is that PPP supports authentication from
PAP (password authentication protocol) and CHAP (Challenge Handshake
Authentication Protocol). I believe that PPP runs over ISDN and HDLC
doesn't (but don't quote me on that one, I'm not sure).
