RE: Network Tools [7:8541]

2001-06-19 Thread Robert (BOB) Perez

Another one would be Compuwares ecoscope. It is similar to a sniffer but
only captures header information and will allow to to see where all the load
is coming from on your network. $$

Okey Dokey

hardware get a laptop...running Win2000 (that way you can change ip
address(non-dhcp) on the Fly

software

www.solarwinds.net ( solarwinds pro) managment+troubleshooting $500
www.nai.com (snifferpro or netXray) troubleshooting $500-10,000
www.concord.com (Nethealth) reporting+Stats $20-100,00
www.hp.com (Hpopenview) reporting+managment+troublshooting $
www.cisco.com (ciscoworks2000) Reporting (Resource manager essentials)+
Troubleshooting (Vlan,ATM,WAN manager) managemnt (CSWI,etc,etc) $30,000

as you can see it depends on your budget .

i use hpopenview all day as it flags up devices/office/ospf area`s going
down ..and can do some real-time int stats(nice graph).also logging of
error`s ...Node down,SNMP mis-match,etc,etc,etc

also concord nethealth...good for telling me what has happened...can tell
say ,,,cpu utilization on a router for the last 12/24H..t
up to weeks...gives graph...

if you can`t stretch to that use solarwinds( some good tools for small
networks) and netXray (packet analyser)we have 1,000s of devises over
100`s of sites so use enterprise tools

BCRAN and Boson [7:9378]

2001-06-21 Thread Robert (BOB) Perez

I read an e-mail yesterday about Boson BCRAN test and someone wanted to know
which ones were good. I only saw one reply referencing test 2 as ok. I am
taking my test next week and would like to purchase one. Any other feedback
on which one out of the three would be the best??

Can I please canvass some opinion as to the relative difficulty of each of
the Routing and Switching CCNA/CCDA/CCNP/CCDP Exams. For example relatively
the CCNA Exam may be harder than say the Remote Access because you have to
cover a bigger ground or number of subjects albeit in lesser depth.

I don't want to draw out a long thread of it but it may be of use (and
interest) personally and to other members who are planning their exams. If
you could rate on a scale of 1-10 the following I'd be grateful;

CCNA - ICND
CCDA - DCN
CCNP - BSCN
- BCMSN
- BCRAN
- CIT
CCDP - CID

Thanks - Karl

Wan Interface Card & VWIC's are Voice Wan Interface Cards. It's kinda hard
to go anymore in-depth than that. This is what Cisco's named their
interface cards for the 1700/2600/3600 series routers. A WIC-1T is a single
DB60 High Speed Serial, WIC-1 ADSL would be an Asymmetrical DSL interface
card & an NM-1E would be a single 10BaseT.
