tcp reset problem [7:70521]

2003-06-11 Thread Scott Hoover
Running a solaris (v8 I think) box with Lotus Notes on it (new build). We
are having a problem with the server immediately sending a reset to clients
after receiving the syn. Congestion or errors on the segment are
non-existent. I don't control the server so I can't see the logs but I'm
dealing with the age old network people vs. server people problem. Anybody
ever had this issue?

Thanks,
Scott

I've never tried it with IBGP, but I've used it for EBGP multihop with no

Thought bgp had a gotcha where you couldn't start a neighbor relationship
based on a static route.

I'm fairly confident that I remember this. It could be for ibgp only, or
maybe just for ebgp.

You may want to take a look

Yes. BGP needs to know how to get to that neighbor and since they are not
directly connected or running a common IGP, you need a static route.

Re: EIGRP Summary Question [7:31256]

2002-01-08 Thread Scott Hoover

If for some reason one of the routes fails that is being summarized, the
packet will match the summary to null 0 and be dropped. This is a safety
mechanism so the router doesn't waste cycles on packets it can't route.

Hunt Lee wrote in message
[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]...
 When using EIGRP Summary:

On the router that performs the summarization, it's routing table will
have
entry listed as Null0 for the summary routes

And on the downstream routers, their routing table will only have the
summaries - no reference to Null 0.

However, the following paragraph is what I'm confused about:-

By applying the longest match rule, the downstream routers will forward
all
destination prefixes using the summary address. Eventually, these
routers
will be forwarded to the router performing the summarization. The
summarizing router will match the destination prefixes with their longer
matching subnets. If any of the destination prefixes match the summary
address only, the summarizing router will forward these packets to the
null
interface, and they will be discarded.

But why / when would the destination prefixes match the summary address
 only??

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Redistribution Question [7:28374]

2001-12-10 Thread Scott Hoover

IGRP will automatically summarize the route to the classful boundary since
it has no connections to that network. If you look at the route table in
Chuck's last message, you will see a classful route to the 10.0.0.0 network.

Hunt Lee wrote in message

Ok - on Router C (the redistribution router - I changed the network
statement from network 192.168.1.18 0.0.0.0 area 0 to network 192.168.1.0
0.0.0.255 area 0 and everything works straight away :)

However, the more puzzling thing is that without any Ip route and
Summary-address from Router C (to summarize the OPSF routes before
redistributing them into IGRP), how come Router D can still see the routes
from OSPF? I thought that it shouldn't be able to see any OSPF routes as
they are from /28 subnets. - apart from the Router A since it is /24.

The only other thing that comes to mind, seeing as you have a number of

 but

I have a question about OSPF over DDR. The lab scenario is:

 1. RTA and RTB connect with each other using back-to-back connection with
serial PPP connection, and use the asynchronous interface as the backup
 interface.

 2. And on each router there is a ethernet interface as a stub network. All
the networks run ospf and belong to 3 areas respectively. PPP and its
backup links are all in the area 0.

 3. I have use the broadcast key word in the rout map, and correctly
define the dialer-list with ip permit.

 Question:
When the primary PPP link is down, the DDR works correctly. But there is
not hello packet can be find on the DDR. When I show the interface
asynchronous 1 under the ospf, I find that: no hellos (passive interface).
 What is mean?

Why? can not explain it. Can you help me?

 Thanks a lot.

Pardon my french, but this is horseshit. We are constantly helping the less
fortunate countries of the world. Get off your high horse and analyze the
crazy bastards that did this. . .they did not attack military sites that
could defend themselves. They went after innocent people who were trying to
make better lives for themselves and their families. Children are dead.
Wives did not see their husbands come home from work last night. CNN is

the WTC. The people that did this are brainwashed by their leaders to
believe the US is responsible for the horrible lives they lead. The US must
suffer in the name of alahanalyze that.

The only thing these people did was awake the sleeping giant the same way
Japan did with Pearl Harbor. An example will be made. We will give them

'It's not the US they want to destroy. It's our arrogance'

During winters when I was little, the boys on my block played a game
called
King of the Hill. After storms, snowplows clearing the streets would leave
behind huge hills of dense, packed snow hills 15 to 20 feet high. The game
was simple. The one who reached the top of the hill and kept everyone else
off it was the King of the Hill. Boys would scramble up the hill, shoving
and pushing each other, sometimes sending a playmate tumbling to the
ground.
It was a rough game and usually it was the bully who made it to the top.
The
biggest, loudest, meanest kid on the block became the King of the Hill.
The
others -- smaller and weaker -- tumbled down quickly or were thrown off by
the King, if they got close to the top of the hill.

Standing a safe distance away, I would watch the boys who were knocked off
the hill over and over again. They never looked defeated. With their chins
set, they would get up from the ground, brush the snow off their clothes
and, after grabbing handfuls of snow, climb up the hill again, determined
to
topple the King. What they lacked in bulk and height, they made up for
with
creativity (icy snow shoved inside a shirt pretty much paralyzes any
bully).
Inevitably, the bully's arrogance was his downfall. Confident that he, the
King, was the biggest, the strongest, the best and so certain that the
others were puny and dumb, the bully usually didn't see the boy sneaking
up
behind him. The one who, with one shove, sent the former King sliding
 headfirst down the hill.

The smaller boys didn't really care who was the King of the Hill. That
snowy
kingdom would be gone come spring. It was the bully's attitude, his
assumption that he deserved to be King that made the boys so determined.
Without treaties or negotiation, they would band together and attack the
King, just to see him take a fall.

Bullies, kings, dictators, meanies don't seem to get it, do they? The more
they push, the more they shove, the more they flex their muscles, the more
determined it makes those they ridicule and bully.

The world has seen this human drama played out time and time again
throughout history, sometimes by individuals, sometimes with entire
peoples
with uprisings. In fact and fiction, those who are pushed frequently and
far
 enough, always push back.

It happened again on September 11, 2001. When terrorists crashed passenger
planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon building in the US,
someone, some group of people, was pushing back. The message seems pretty
clear: the wealthy, powerful king had to be knocked off the hill.

Perhaps this is not the time to criticize a country that has suffered such
great loss of life. But, as I have listened to news reports and watched
the
horrific images for the past several hours, the most recent showing a
second
plane aiming directly for the World Trade Center, crashing through a tower
as onlookers scream, I can't help but wonder. What would drive some people
to take such extreme measures? Why would anyone go to these lengths to
hurt
 the United States?

I can come up with only one answer. It's not us they hate. It's not the US
they want to destroy. It's our arrogance.

'America under attack.' That's how the media is describing it. Unaware of
the morning's events, I listened to cryptic voicemail messages about my
home
office in Chicago being shut down due to the 'crisis' and my father asking
me to call. I had left my California hotel room for a conference session
without listening to the news hours earlier. Confused by the messages, I
turned on the television immediately. The caption on my muted television
screen alarmed me. Were we being invaded? Had the government been
overthrown?

But it isn't the US these terrorists want. They don't want our land, our
buildings, our wealth, our leaders or our people. I think they are just
sick
and tired of being pushed around. As I write this, I don't

RE: For FR Grus.... [7:16635]

2001-08-21 Thread Scott Hoover

You might be right, I would have to test in it a lab. Can anybody give
confirmation on this?

Doesn't disabling inverse arp only take effect on a router reboot?

You can disable inverse arp on each interface on the spokes and then clear
the cache. That should prevent the spokes from seeing the unused dlci's,
but will require a static map of dlci to ip for each dlci you want to use.

Sorry guys...I donto know where it lost in b/w..Any way..I have write it
 here again.

 Thanks for the kind replies..
 For eg,

our FR switch is setup for Full mesh,But out network is setup as Hub
Spoke
environment. In that case there must be some unused DLCI's on spoke routers
which we would still be seeing as active on these routers although they
would be of no use offcourse for this envioronmetnt.
Is there any way If we can get rid of these DLCIS on the spokes.i.e to
disable them or USE any method which block them to be appearing on spoek
 routers.(without touching FR switch)

I know Must be confusing for majority here ..But ..

I AM SURE I WILL GET THE SOLUTION HERE AS WELL.

 Thanks.

Could you elaborate on the mapping of 0.0.0.0 to a DLCI? How does it come
about?
Thanks,

Chuck Larrieu wrote in message

it used to be that you could do a clear frame-relay-inarp to accomplish
this. however, since the advent of 12.x, I believe the only sure way is to
 reload.

BTW, watch out for the mapping of 0.0.0.0 to your DLCI's! ;-

2001-08-21 Thread Scott Hoover

From CCO:

clear frame-relay-inarp
To clear dynamically created Frame Relay maps, which are created by the use
of Inverse ARP, use the clear frame-relay-inarp EXEC command.

clear frame-relay-inarp
Syntax Description
This command has no arguments or keywords.

Command Mode
EXEC

Example
The following example clears dynamically created Frame Relay maps:

clear frame-relay-inarp

Related Commands
frame-relay inverse-arp
show frame-relay map

I don't have access right now to test it, but I'm pretty sure I've done this
before without rebooting.

Re: FRAME-Relay Hub and Spoke Question [7:16221]

a). yes

b). the route statement on the switch should point out the interface on the
switch (connected to the hub), this statement has nothing to do with the hub
interface (or sub-interfaces).

 Guys,

Correct me if I am wrong but in a Frame-Relay lab scenaio that I am doing.
 I have 3 routers representing spokes, 1 4000 series configured as a
switch,
and 1 representing the Hub/HQ router. I am planning on using
sub-interfaces
on the HUB and physical interfaces for the spoke routers.

 My question are:-

a). Don't I only need 1 physical cable from router HUB to the Switch?

b). In the frame-relay route statement on the switch, would I map the
routes to the sub-interfaces as opposed to the single physical interface
 (S0) on the Hub router?

 Thanks

Remove backup statements for primary and add a floating static pointed out
BRI (or dialer) with an adminstrative distance higher than your IGP. Don't
forget to redistribute these routes into your IGP.

 Leased Line with ISDN backup.

1)we have two branch offices named as X and Y.

2)we have configured leased line as primary and isdn back up between two
branch offices, everything is ok and it is working fine.

3)we have given backup delay as 5 seconds(backup delay 5 60) so that when
leased line goes dowm ISDN should activate after 5 seconds.

4)when leased line activate isdn will remain up till 180 seconds.(after
180
 seconds isdn will goes down).

 REQUIREMENT

ISDN should activate immediately after the leased line goes down.so that
the
end users at those branch offices cannot face any problems.

5)but problem is that when leased line goes down isdn is activating after
60
seconds(eventhough we have given backup delay as 5 seconds) by that time
all
applications are shutting down and the users at those brach offices are
 facing problems.

so what could be the problem.we need isdn should activate immediately
after
leasedline goes down that means with in 5 seconds.

ITS VERY URGENT

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Passed CCIE written on first try this morning [7:3066]

2001-05-03 Thread Scott Hoover

Passed the written on the first try this morning with flying colors. Very,
very tricky exam. I used Routing TCP/IP by Doyle, TR white paper by Rossi,
Boson 1 and 2, and various info. from CCO. THEIR IS NO SHORTCUT TO THIS
EXAM! Don't rely on the Boson exams--they are good to get you in the right
frame of mind, but won't do much else for you. Study the recommended
reading list and info. on CCO. On to the lab exam. . .

OK, I have a DOS question that really is relevant to Cisco networking
(sort
of. ;-) This came up a couple months ago, but I can't find the answer in
 the archives.

What is the DOS command to see port numbers (services) in use on a PC?
Someone posted a command that would let you see the list of TCP and UDP
port numbers. One of my students asked how to do this and I remembered
that
there was a command, but I couldn't remember what it was.

 Thanks,

 Priscilla
