Passed CIT

2001-03-16 Thread Taiwo Adeshugba

Hi Everyone,

I passed the last exam of the CCNP journey this morning and it was a rough
road. The exam as some people have put it was a tough one as I had to read
the questions twice to understand what they were asking. For those who have
not taken the exam read the CIT book by Laura Chappell, I also supplemented
it with the new Cisco support book and try your hands on Colt as I met some
questions that were similar. OH Priscilla your Flashcards were great on the
CIT question and I am happy I used them.
Anyway CCNP at last its time to celebrate and hit the books after a deserved
rest.

Thanks Everyone

RE: HSRP question

2000-11-22 Thread Taiwo Adeshugba

Here is the official answer:
The standby router automatically assumes the role when the active router
fails or is removed from service. This new active router remains the
forwarding router even when the former active router with the higher
priority regains the service in the network.
The former active router can be configured to resume the forwarding router
role from a router with a lower priority. To make the router resume the
forwarding role, you must enter the PREEMPT COMMAND this will make the
former router assume its previous role. I hope this make sense.

RE: Trunking--

2000-11-22 Thread Taiwo Adeshugba

Stuart,
There is a possibility that all links to a router can be a trunk but why do
you want to do that?. You would only need a trunk link to a switch if you
have multiple vlans and are using the router to route traffic between them.
A link would not be a trunk if is an access port in which the port belongs
to only one vlan. The port can't receive information form other vlan's
unless the information has been routed.
Secondly an Hybrid link is where the link is both a Trunk and Access link.
These carry both frames, with Tagged frames for Vlan information and
untagged frames without vlan information. Therefore it will receive both
Tagged and untagged frames.
To answer the third question. There is nothing much to consider except the
fact that to configure HSRP over an ISL link between vlans do the following
1. Define the encapsulation format which in your case will be ISL
2.Define the IP address and enable HSRP. However remember that you are
configuring this on the sub interfaces not the primary interface
i.e.
Interface fast Ethernet 1/1 .20
encapsulation isl 20.
The 20 in the first command is for the sub interface 20.
I hope this helps and is not misleading.

I have to write my BCMSN tommorow and have managed to confuse myself about
trunking. Are the following points correct please.
1. Am i correct in that all links between switches and or routers can be
trunks if the hardware supports it? When would a link not be a trunk
2. Why would a trunk be an hybrid trunk-if it is directly connected wouldnt
it only receive tagged OR untagged frames and not both?
3. Is ther aynthing special to remember about configuring a trunk from HSRP
routers usning ISL?

thanks

RE: Blocking state

Yes, ports that will not be forwarding are placed in the blocked state.
These ports will continue to send and receive BPDU information but will not
be allowed to send or receive data.

Naveen,
The
router with the highest standby priority in the group becomes the active
router, but by default the lowest mac address becomes the active router if both
the active and standby router fails.also be aware that they also said that if
the priorities are the same the router with the highest ip address becomes the
active router.so
Highest priority
Highest ip address if the priorities are the same
Lowest
Mac address if both the active and standby fails. I WISH THEY JUST TAKE
ONE.

RE: CCNP Switching 2.0

2000-12-01 Thread Taiwo Adeshugba

I guess the answer to your question is IT DEPENDS. I did not get a lot of
multicasting question but some people did. The only advise I have for you is
that you should study and know it because all the questions about
Multicasting were easy questions and could give you additional marks. So
don't sweat its relatively easy.

Have anyone taken the CCNP Switching 2.0 test? If so are ther a lot of

RE: Re : ISDN Backup

2000-12-13 Thread Taiwo Adeshugba

I think you are missing some commands from the config on your router. if you
want to back up the interface you have to use the BACKUP INTERFACE command
on the primary interface. And to have a threshold level you need to use the
command BACKUP DELAY, and for the threshold you need to use the command
BACKUP LOAD which will be a percentage of the primary line's available
bandwidth that the traffic load must exceed to enable dial backup.
The best thing is to send the output of the Running congfig and we can take
it from there as I think I am walking blindly into this.

Hi All,

I am using the following config on my router.

router eigrp xxx
 redistribute static
 passive-interface BRI1/0
 network x.x.x.x
 distribute-list 2 out Serial0/0
!
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Serial0/0
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 bri1/0 150

I am using ISDN as the backup interface.
The problem is that when my Serial link is erratic
(not down), isdn backup is not able to activate
(momentarily activates and then disconnects)
what feature should I use to activate my backup
immediately as soon as it senses a break in the serial
link.
Can I set some threshold level?

Secondly I wanted to stop the www traffic when my ISDN
backup is up ??
Any suggestions.

Thanks & Regards

Don't sweat, go and take the exam. In as much as Boson is not a true
reflection of the exam, when you start to get those high marks and you know
the reason behind the question why they are wrong or right go take the exam.
Boson for BCMSN is harder than the actual exam. that is my opinion. so go
knock them for six.
