configuring NTP [7:56811]

2002-11-04 Thread Tony Chen
I found the reference to the NTP command which states the need to remove one
of the commands when copying the config file (I still don't fully understand
why):

=
Caution The ntp clock-period command is automatically generated to reflect
the constantly changing correction factor when the copy
running-configuration startup-configuration command is entered to save the
configuration to NVRAM. Do not attempt to manually use the ntp clock-period
command. Ensure that you remove this command line when copying configuration
files to other devices.
=

If anyone know why do they suggest to remove this command, please explain.
I thought the start-up config is only passively stored in the NVRAM and
waiting to be copy to running-config.

Tony

Study for CIT [7:55173]

2002-10-09 Thread Tony Chen

I am study for the CIT:

Possible problem and recommended solution: Switch cannot communicate with
another device

Another problem could be with the actual configuration of the interface.
Make sure the interface you are connecting to (sc0 or me1) is UP (use the
show interface command to check). Make sure the IP address, subnet mask, and
VLAN membership of the switch interface (sc0 or me1) is correct (use the
show interface command). To prevent conflicts, make sure the me1 and sc0
interfaces are configured with IP addresses and subnet masks in different
subnets (use the show interface command to ! check), or disable one of the
interfaces using the set interface {sc0 | me1} disable command.

Question:

make sure the me1 and sc0 interfaces are configured with IP addresses and
subnet masks in different subnets to prevent conflict. What kind of
conflict could have occurred?

Thanks for the help.

Tony

MAC address and switch [7:42226]

2002-04-22 Thread Tony Chen

Please help a curious mind here, the link is to a white paper describing how
to configuring spanning tree. In the document it describes each switch has
1024 mac address.

Configuring spanning tree

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat5000/rel_5_2/config/spantree.htm#xtocid2879613

MAC Address Allocation
The supervisor engine has a pool of 1024 MAC addresses that are used as the
bridge IDs for the VLAN spanning trees. You can use the show module command
to view the MAC address range for the supervisor engine.

Each switch has 1024(MAC)addresses. If I connected
port 8 switch A to port 8 switch B with RJ45 crossover
cable.

1. Will I have 2048 MAC addresses?
2. Do Ethernet switch come with their own MAC address?

It requires 3 years of experience in security work--provable experience. The
Common Body of Knowledge is extensive. I've seen a number of job ads that
look for the cert, though I cannot say that they really needed someone with
that level of knowledge.

CISSP Certification Examination #8211; Applicant Requirements
CISSP Certification candidates must meet the following requirements prior to
taking the CISSP examination.

Subscribe to the (ISC)2 Code of Ethics.
Have at least 3 years of cumulative work experience in one or more of the
ten test domains in information systems [IS] security. Valid experience
includes information systems security-related work performed as a
practitioner, auditor, consultant, vendor, investigator or instructor, or
that which requires IS security knowledge and involves direct application of
that knowledge.

Re: BCRAN passed

2001-01-10 Thread Tony Chen

Nickel,

Is there any fill in the blank type of question for BCRAN?

Tony Chen

"Gabriel Nickel" [EMAIL PROTECTED] 11/21/00 07:51AM
Yes!!!
Compared to Routing and Switching i found this exam fairly easy. There were like 20
choose-IOS-command-from-list questions. The
following subjects were covered:
- Frame Relay
- X25
- AAA/Security
- ISDN
- Dialup, Modem Config
- Router and Connection Deployment
- PPP
- NAT

I took the Boson #1 and COLT test and read the Ciscopress BCRAN book by Paquet (except
for the chapter dealing with the 700's). The
list, off course, is also a great resource.

calalyst 2900 - %Error parsing start (no such device)

2000-10-06 Thread Tony Chen

Here is a problem that a friend of mine has encounter, and I have no answer for it.
Please help.

He was working on a 2900-series Cisco switch at a
client site would not let him perform a "copy run start" command.
The error message that he received was the following:

When he try the command, the switch responds with:

%Error parsing start (no such device)

I wasn't quite sure what to make of the error, and I was hoping any of you could
help me out. I briefly checked Cisco's web site, but there are so many
parsing errors that I couldn't sort through them. (I'm not that familiar
navigating the search engine on their site).

Please help!
