RE: IP Telephony Specialization

2000-08-24 Thread elias4

Kevin,

The reason that cisco pusing for their support and engineers to have MCSE 2000
is that Call Manager is closley tied with windows active directory to work
properly

here is a link of press relese.

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/146/pressroom/2000/feb00/ent_021700.htm

Elias

**
Probably because Call Manager runs on Win2K.

Dear Group,

At http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/767/spcl/iptel/req.html

one of the CCNAs has to be MCSE 2000.

Can anyone say how the Microsoft cert fits into IP Telephony?

I might have thought for IPSec and maybe VPN but I'm not up on how Win2000
relates to IP Tel.

I'm a MCSE 3.51/4.0 so I'll probably do the 2000 thing but I was hoping to
forego further M$ certs and carry on with more Cisco stuff.

Any ideas on why Cisco wants you to have a M$ cert??

Farook,
look at where it says " (MSFC Software (C6MSFC-JS-M), Version 12.0(7)XE1)

from this it shows that it is ("c6 for cat6000 ")

where in the "sh ver" do you read what type it is?

OSPF !!!

2000-06-14 Thread elias4

Hello everyone!

I have a bit of confusion with how to route selection occurs in OSPF by
icluding the following commands Please shade some light on this

Ok here comes

does cost and priority affects route selection ??

1. router ospf 3
 network 158.13.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0
 default-information originate
 default-metric 1
 distance 85
 ip ospf cost 10
 ip ospf priority 4

2 router ospf 3
  network 158.13.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0
 default-information originate
 default-metric 1
 distance 85
 ip ospf cost 20
 ip ospf priority 5

Thanks,
Elias

RE:Multicasting question

2000-06-14 Thread elias4

Yes you have ...

LAB.4500(config)#ip multicast-routing

Elias

In the near future there are plans to do video conferencing between all of
our offices scattered across the US (10 in all). Our current network is set
up in that the Cisco 1720 routers we have at each location are basically
dumb routers as we have Watchguard Fireboxes that function as the
firewall/VPN for each office (each office has a connection to the Internet
and we have VPN tunnels that link our network together). My question is
this: Will I have to enable a routing protocol on the routers to enable
multicasting?

Thanks,
Jeff

2000-06-16 Thread elias4

Folks,

Thanks for all that have replied. One thing to mention that Charles was the
only one to mention that " ip ospf cost and ip ospf priority are interface
specific commands " Nothing drastic changes at Cisco Charles. It was just Me
and I (brain was hurting ) putting the config together on top of my head...

But thanks for mentioning that and my problem was resolved by using the
bandwidth command and playing with the some of the metrics.

Thanks all
Elias

Cost does affect route selection. OSPF determines the best route to a
destination based upon the metric called cost. By default cost is calculated
using the formula :

Cost = 10exp8/ bandwidth of the interface ( i think so :) )

You need to set the correct bandwidth for serial links using the bandwidth
command. Make sure you understand that the bandwidth command is just an
informational command that tells the different routing protocols about the
actual bandwidth of an interface. This command has nothing to do with the
data transmission rate.

Iftekhar,

It is a bad news but you cannot break a password in 3-com superstack II
1100/3300 switches. The only way to recover is it have to be sent to 3-com
this is due to those switches were made for government uses in the begining
