Access server 2511 Reverse Telnet [7:73656]
HI All I was wondering if any of you guys have come across reverse telnet problems with the 2511 access server? Basically I have 8 devices connected and when I reverse telnet to them all is OK, but on when I try and connect to a 2900 XL switch I get this : Termserver#telnet 192.168.1.1 2006 Trying 192.168.1.1, 2006 ..Open And thats it, nothing else. No command prompt or anything comes up on the screen I have configured telnet connections as exactly the same as all my other devices, I have IOS 12.0(5.2). Any ideas ?? There is an important difference and quite often people mix the terms on accident. If you would normally need a rollover cable to connect to that particular console port then simply connect the octal cable and you're good to go. If you need a straight cable for some reason then you will need an adapter to roll the cable again. RE: Access server 2511 Reverse Telnet [7:73656]
Hello, No ideas but I am getting the same problem!! I usually have to CTRL+SHIFt+6 out back to my TermServer. I try clearing the line 2 or 3 times and sometimes I can connect other wise I have to recycle the 2511 and usually I can get in but as soon as I leave line 7 or 8 (usually only happens on those lines) I can never reconnect. I to would like some help? Could it be a bad cable? ~Paul~ > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2003 6:33 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Access server 2511 Reverse Telnet [7:73656] > Basically I have 8 devices connected and when I reverse telnet to them all > is OK, but on when I try and connect to a 2900 XL switch I get this : > Termserver#telnet 192.168.1.1 2006 > Trying 192.168.1.1, 2006 ..Open > > And thats it, nothing else. Hi Oliver Many thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, I am using the Octal cable to connect to the console of the switch. Are you saying I should connect a crossover cable to the end of the octal cable and then connect the cross over into the console port of the switch ?? Another possibility is that your 2900xl switch has settings that are different than your other connections. Have you tried changing things such as the txspeed and the start/stop bits. If not you may want to try that as an initial test. Re: Access server 2511 Reverse Telnet [7:73656]
Hi Wallis. You have to use a crossover cable, not the normal straight through. If you have the one with octal cables, you can use a RJ45-RJ45 connector and then another crossover cable. RE: Access server 2511 Reverse Telnet [7:73656]
I had a similar problem with a PIX-501. My solution was to add 'modem cts-required' under the line configuration of the termainl server connected to the PIX. I dont think it is a cable issue... troubleshoot physical layer up. If you can use a computer with a rollover cable and it works, you should be able to use an octal cable with no problems. If you dont get a response, try the same line of the octal cable on anohter device. Now we know it's not the device we are connecting to, and it's not the octal cable... Boils down to protocol or handshaking on the line.
