RE: BCRAN Exam Help

2000-08-10 Thread Aderion Brewer

I'm the President of a local study group here in Atlanta and we have chosen
to use book the by Thomas Thomas Adam Quiggle, ISBN#0072124806 and have
found it to be the most thorough. They also include a FAQ following each
chapter, case studies and at least 20 QA for each chapter. They've also
broken down the very large chapters into more edible chunks, however, they
could have taken a suggestion from Cisco press and grouped some chapters
that were related, by Parts I, II, respectfully. McGraw Hill has done a
good job with this latest series of books for the NP track.

Although we normally use the Cisco Press books, the one that's currently
available by Catherine Paquet (Editor)(August 1999) ISBN#1578700914 is not
as detailed, namely as it relates to the QA. Following each of their
chapters, you're lucky if you get 3 to 4 questions, covering a lot of info.
It is the one which closely follows what they are teaching in the classes,
but mind you they are coming out with another 2nd edition in Oct.
Hopefully, they will have a CD like their CCNA Exam series, W. Odom book
had, to help in the cert. process to gauge your knowledge retention.

When you don't have the luxury of people taking the time to review books
before you decide which to purchase, go to Amazon or BN and see what others
are saying about it 1st, read them all and make a judgement call. If you
don't think the book is all it's cut out to be, most bookstores, do have
return policies to take it back.

Hope this helps!

RE: BCRAN Exam Help Can you recommend Book for BSCN?

2000-08-10 Thread Aderion Brewer

Thanks Tom, we gone through a lot of trial error from the past two years
running MACG, and the content of the books are essential to making it happen
the 1st time, whenever possible.

The BSCN book we're targeting is BSCN: Building Scalable Cisco Networks
by Thomas M. 2Nd Thomas, Arjan Aelmans, Floris Houniet, Tan Nam-Kee, Thomas
M., II Thomas, ISBN: 0072124776, but the publisher keeps pushing the date
available up. Our distributor says, instead of Aug. it's now October. We
didn't want to hold up our NP sessions because none of the books we were
interested in were not available so we're studying for both the BCRAN and
BCMSN until we can make a solid decision. This also works out great to
better prepare you for the BSCN and CIT.

However, the other book, also in the publisher's dark hole, is Building
Scalable Cisco Networks (Cisco Career Certifications) by Diane Teare,
Catherine Paquet - ISBN: 1578702283, by Cisco Press. As I mentioned
previously, and especially for this exam, you'd be better off sticking with
Cisco Press, merely for the way Cisco words the exams to their way of
speaking. If you're not cognizant of this, by going with any other book,
you're playing Russian Roulette. We always recommend to use whatever
additional reference materials you can afford to master the exam objectives.
We're a 'hands-on' study group, so we're blessed with having the means to do
our labs provided in the book. In summary, Cisco although boring yet very
illustrative, does this best.

Good luck and I really enjoy this list, so I felt it was time I put in my
$.02, after over a year of lurking. Again, hope this helps!

Aderion--you recommendation appears very well thought out, which
leads me to ask what you recommend for BSCN (ACRC replacement).

Thanks in Advance.
